Looking back and comparing 1st years on market (approximately) for various Nintendo consoles (notable games):

SNES 1st year: Super Mario World, F-Zero, Sim City, Pilotwings, Castlevania IV, Super Tennis, Contra III, Final Fantasy II (V), Zelda: Link to the Past, Street Fighter II, Ninja Turtles IV, Super Ghouls N' Ghosts, Actraiser, Final Fight

N64 1st year: Super Mario 64, Pilotwings 64, Killer Instinct Gold, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Wave Race 64, Blast Corps, Mario Kart 64, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Star Fox 64, GoldenEye

GameCube 1st year - Smash Bros. Melee, Luigi's Mansion, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II, Super Monkey Ball, Wave Race: BS, Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil REmake, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, Animal Crossing, Resident Evil 0, Star Fox Adventures.

Wii 1st year - Wii Sports, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Excite Truck, Red Steel, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, Mario Party, Trauma Center.

Wii U 1st year - New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo Land, Zombi U, DKC: Tropical Freeze, LEGO City, Sonic Lost Worlds, Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, The Wonderful 101, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U.

You can see the huge drop off in third party involvement post-SNES, the SNES in its first year had tons of third party support, perhaps most notably Street Fighter II, which became the system's biggest early on.
