He wasnt telling them to be like Sony or Microsoft. He said despite the fact that the only game hes anticipating this year is Bayonetta and he will eventually play Zombiu, Nintendo screwed up their one year head start by NOT having:
1) Proper next gen hardware as to why the third party shied away. Nintendo failed to profit off of third party games (compared to their competition who actually had less games) which is where a lot of companies make a lot of their money over time despite console sales and first party games.
2) Proper launch titles, which is why he alluded to Nintendo not having a proper core launch since the N64.
His frustration as a Nintendo fan is wondering why Nintendo can't just come out with a console that can lend itself to proper ports so he doesn't have to go out and buy a Sony or Microsoft product and enjoy his Nintendo fix. This led him to conclude that Nintendo is out of touch. This video was in february and he was speculating, but eventually after the PS4 was revealed his prediction was proven true.
