Not sure if this the answer you're looking for...but anyway:

Hard to say without knowing what Sony and MS are planning for their next gen consoles. What I do see is low sales at the beginning of both consoles, mostly because people will stay with the PS3 at the 360 for a while, especially since at least 1 CoD game will be on those consoles (Modern Warfare 4 perhaps). 

Most of the times only the core fans of the company are the ones who buy a console at launch (PS2 and Wii are the exception). Both the 720 and PS4 will need a lot of games coming regularly in order to justify the price of a new console (which will most likely be $350+), and that includes more games than just first party tittles, and third party games that are not ports of 360 and PS3 games. 

This doesn't mean the dedicated gaming consoles are going down or anything, although with how much emphasis next gen consoles are having with multimedia features it will be kinda hard to judge them as "dedicated gaming consoles" per se, although that remains to be seen.
