There was a time awhile ago when I made the prediction that the PS3 eventually had to pass Microsoft's xbox in this console gen due to all the exclusive support it would receive in Japan after the release of Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII, and I also said that the PS3 was destined to sell over 8 Million Units in Japan and become the best selling second place console in Japan.

Well, I really seem to have missed the first part of that prediction because the PS3 never seemed to get the exclusive support from Japan and Versus XIII was never even released; however, it certainly seems that due to its dominance in Europe and the Pal territories, that the PS3 does stand a solid chance of surpassing the 360 at some point in time.

And a lot of people really thought my prediction of the PS3 selling over 8 Million in Japan and becoming the best selling second place console ever in a gen in Japan was pretty ridiculous too.  Now, I'm not really sure what the best selling second place console ever in any gen was in Japan.  Maybe the PC Engine?  However, I have noticed that the PS3 has sold 8.8 Million Units now in Japan, and if a few key titles are released before the end of the gen, I really think it could get as high as 10 Million,  and, much like the PC Engine did against the NES, make it's standing against Wii seem even more impressive before it's retired.

And what about that Vita?  Only a year old and in Japan the Vita is already only 0.4 units sold behind the 360's total numbers since 2005.

What do you think of Sony's impressive showing in Japan this gen?
