I remember the simpler times during the N64 vs Playstation, SNES vs the Genesis, Gameboy vs the Gamegear, and before my time there was NES vs the Sega Master System. There the lines were drawn. You owned one console and didn't own the other. Rivalries were set. You were either on one side or the other.

As the generations progressed, those lines are now blurred. Today, We have more multiple console owners then ever before. That in itself is fine. This breeds fair competition and an environment where all 3 gaming companies can thrive. I couldn't be happier with this generation in terms of fairly distributed sales between MS, Sony, and Nintendo.

What is an annoying by-product of such equal competition is the debates. We still have fans of all three consoles and the forums this gen have been particularily active over the years due to competition, namely between 360 and PS3. So we can all surely confirm that people have their loyalties this gen, arguably more so then any other gen before it. But we see diehard PS3 fans who also game on their PC. 360 fans who own a PS3 on the side. Wii owners who own one or more of the above.

This is progressive in the eyes of many im sure, but in the spirit of us being on a forum meant for the exchange of ideas and debate, owning "the enemy" can automatically discredit you IMO. You shouldn't claim to be a diehard 360 fan if you own a PS3 for it's exclusives. PS3 fans shouldn't declare their biases if they own a 360 or game on a PC. Saying "its collecting dust" or that you haven't played a game on it since the last big exclusive doesn't change that you bought one. You spent your money on it and it resides in your house. So obviously there was some reason to purchase one in the first place, meaning that your favourite console wasn't enough to satisfy you by itself.

I only own a 360 and never seriously considered buying the competition. I have the capacity to buy all three, but I chose to get the one console that is the best all-in-one package. For me, its 360. PS3 or Wii or PC could be the answer for you guys. But to pick a side in a debate while owning the competition....just doesn't seem right. Where's the loyalty? If your a neutral gamer then this thread shouldn't even concern you.

I don't know. Guess I am just nostalgic for the good ol days where the lines were clearly drawn and everybody knew where everybody else stood. Now we have people who own everything and claim to love one of them the most, while at the same time falling back on the "I bought everything" card whenever their biases are exposed. I miss the old days.
