Honestly I wonder if it would be smarter for Sony to bow out of the handheld market. PSP did decent, but the Vita is tripping out of the gate and in Sony's current state they need winners. They can't just brute force their way to success by funding losers until they pick up.
I think we will definitely see a PS4, but hopefully Sony has learned from the past and gone a little more modest under the hood so that 1) people can afford it, and 2) they won't be losing a lot on each unit sold
