You know what saddens me the most? before this generation there was no such thing as "Sony fanboys." during my time playing the last two generations, I never once had someone go all out on their "blahhh, sony is the best, nintendo/microsoft sucks!" I DID, however get swamped with "Xbox is better" people last gen, and even the smartest people I knew were all "N64 is best" type people....which was annoying as hell because I actually hated the PS1 at first and wanted an N64 instead, even then the Nintendo fanboys were annoying.

Until this generation, I had never seen a sony fanboy....and I only saw sony fanboys show up AFTER the relentless attack by the microsoft fanboys, mostly as an exagerrated defense mechanism against 'haters.'

It wasn't until recently I saw a lot of people really back sony and get aggressive about it, inthe formative years of the PS3, it was all defensive stuff, but now it's "Xbox has no games" and "We don't have to pay for online!".

Funny how things change.

I must admit, my fanboyism for Sony has only grown during this generation as a part of the ongoing assault from fans of the other systems.  I've always liked Sony, but I enjoyed them without feeling the need to defend them before.

I'd say it's not as bad as it has been, but I still see people like sales posting youtube videos where he spends 10 minutes telling me everything that he believes is wrong with the PS3 and about 30 seconds saying what's good about the 360.  I mean, I thought he was just a loyal follower, but it seemed like he was more an anti-fan of Sony than he was an actual fan of Microsoft.

And that honestly is my biggest problem with it.  I really don't mind if people like 360, or Wii more - that's their choice, they're both good systems with a lot of merits.  But to tell me I'm wrong for liking what I like about the PS3?  It really riles me up.  And I guess that's the whole point of him doing it, to get people like me (and you) frustrated.  Which isn't really a very nice thing to do, but there we go.

I actually didn't even know what a fanboy was until this generation.  I'd heard the term thrown around a bit beforehand, and in retrospect I'd encountered many in the past, but I never really noticed any sort of fanboy war until this generation.  Last generation I heard a lot of "PS2 sucks, xbox is better" stuff, but I never heard a whole lot in any other direction.  PS2 had the games, save halo and a few others, so nobody really cared.  there was a lot of talk about the Gamecube failing, but I always saw that as just simple numbers...and in retrospect it was entirely accurate.

The generation before I heard a bit about how N64 was better from my friends, and I had a few zealots call me an idiot for chosing sony (I didn't, my parents did, a decision I hated them for), and I was always pretty chill about it.  I got to play Final Fantasy VII, I was happy.

There was a lot of arguing in the Genesis/SNES era, but I paid it little mind.  I had both so I didn't care.

But this generation, holy shit fanboyism got BAD!  Xbox360 came out and their apparent hard on for hating sony really blew up.  I don't know what it was, evenbefore the "600 dollars" announcement, I saw Sony hate everywhere!  then every time something was announced, I always heard so much about how evil sony was and how Xbox was better....and I saw little rationality in it (seemed to be pretty ignorant, even back then), so I got defensive.  Not becuase I was some sony fanboy, but bcuase I usually argue with people when their logic is flawed regardless of what angle it comes from.  Just so happened to be that the irrational hatred I saw the most was coming from microsoft, so I started to hate microsoft and love sony (becuase Sony seemed to be their target from what I saw.)

Any fanboyism I ever exhibited was a direct result of arguing with moronic Microsoft fanboys.  I saw some stupid arguments on Sony's side, too, but they never seemed as aggressive.

Today, PS3 is by far my favorite (I'd say it is in my eyes as good as 360 and Wii put together), but I still defend Xbox and Nintendo when I see people using stupid arguments against them.

Though I admit I'm very disappointed in the second half of the Wii's life.  Started with so much promise, but it really chigged at the end; a slow, whining death in the midst of the WiiU, which I will get but not at launch like I got with the Wii.
