The GamePad has a built-in Gyro sensor, and you can also use Wii Remotes.  What's worth noting is that it only can use Wii Remote Pluses (which have the MotionPlus built in) or regular Wiimotes with the MotionPlus attachment.  This means that shooters (and other motion-controlled games) will use the far-more-accurate Gyro controls instead of the pointer.

Also, if you don't like motion controls, the GamePad and Wii U Pro Controller are very comfortable and should suit you just fine.

Who told you that? Nintendo's site clearly lists ALL Wii controllers and attachments. Plus and non plus.

From Nintendo's site, notice the OR:

Other Controllers

The Wii U console is capable of supporting two Wii U GamePad controllers, up to four Wii Remote (or Wii Remote Plus) controllers or Wii U Pro Controllers, and Wii accessories such as the Nunchuk, Classic Controller and Wii Balance Board.
