Eh, this guy just advocates that Nintendo keep bleeding cash as a "competitive advantage." Nintendo didn't need to burn money to make the DS or the Wii massively successful, why would they do so with the Wii U?

This guy sounds like another third party publisher who wants hardware makers to subsidize more and more so all the profit can go to publishers. He even has the gall to suggest that subsidized hardware was "a solid investment" for Sony after mentioning their recent $6 billion loss.

I'm not sure if anybody has noticed, but nobody is making money in game consoles right now. That's not a good thing... Unless you're a publisher who wants to homogenize and commodify gaming hardware in order to reign in production costs and maximize addressable market.

The difference is, he's suggesting a $50 loss per console, not a $200+ nor is he suggesting Nintendo ever sell for a ridiculously high price point like PS3 did. The last console to sell for a $50 loss was the PS2 (I think, not sure how much the 360 lost per unit). But it's also a strategy that seems to be helping the 3DS sales no end. The whole thing is a calculated risk that's made less risky by the money Nintendo have generated this gen.

As for Sony, I believe their Playstation business is actually one of their only bright points right now.
