No chance. The market for Wii has always been bigger than for the PS3, so market saturation sets in earlier for the latter. Also the WiiU will take away most the sales from the PS3, as it will have Nintendo key software at better gaphics (presumably) going into holidays.

Wii U won't take PS3 sales away, it'll take Wii sales.

Duh.. let me spell it out for you:

From fall on, there will be essentially two groups of buyers:

a) Wii people wanting "more power": They will gravitate towards the WiiU, not the PS3 for obvious reasons

b) People wanting a "powerful console": They will also gravitate towards the WiiU, not the PS3 (newer, shinier, etc..)

There will be a nonessential group of people that want "A console to play": They will buy a Wii, not a PS3 or WiiU

In the end (neglecting Xbox360  in the equation for equally obviuos resons), the WiiU WILL take away PS3 sales.

So much wrong with your post...

a. The Wii success doesn't mean it will carry over to the Wii U. Just look at what happened between the PS2 and PS3 transition.
b. No, they will "gravitate" towards the cheaper powerful consoles such as a PS3 or Xbox 360.

In the end it all comes down to marketing and word of mouth. People won't buy a Wii U if they don't know about it. People won't buy a Wii U if they can buy the still new Kinect for Xbox 360 which is cheaper.
