Honestly I enjoyed The Princess Bride back in the day a lot. I would be very skeptical if a remake were to be announced however I wouldn't shoot it down immediately on principal. The Princess Bride in my opinion could be improved in minute ways and if the right director and cast were found a remake has the potential of living up to the original.

In the end I must say I haven't seen many remakes that are actually better then the past one. However the new Conan reboot I found to be vastly superior to the original so it is possible. A major problem is the remakes are never direct remakes with better acting , sword play and effects. Studios always hire new writers and directors each who want to put their own stamp on the title.

This means that the plot does change either vastly or a little but it is never the same plot it was original. A remake is a huge gamble in the fact that you set the bar very very high and its extremely hard even with today's technology and budget to live up to the expectations you have created. Then their is nostalgic value, even if your film is technically superior the fans have a memory of what the product was it has effected their identity. Can your product not only live up to the quality bar the original set but to the much higher expectations fans have created in their heads over the years based on memories.
