Is it the community? I do understand because the console community can be pretty damn STUPID at times. For example, at times I would play KZ3 on my fancy ps triple I meet people on bluetooth talking in game that are just plain awful people. Like, these people just mess with the team and what not, an example being when there's some dumb guy on the opposing team whom team that goes 1 kill 12 deaths and his team wins and he starts bad mouthing my team, of which I may be 20 kills 11 deaths, and man it just gets me to wondering like what the hell you did worse than the worse guy on my losing team you freak! Well the community can be a huge reason as to stick to pc gaming even with all the hassle, at least that's my guess, but what's really the issue at hand? Why not play console games to avoid the hassle? |
Community is one reason, but not the only one. I play both consoles and PC for instance, but some games I would much rather play on PC whether that be for interface (e.g. mouse aiming is just much faster for shooters) or as Vlad has already touched on freedom (which ties in with community to be fair). On consoles, LBP gives the player huge amounts of freedom, but it still pales into comparison to what's available on the PC.
Many game devs start first by creating mods like Counterstrike, and the guy that created the OOO mods for Oblivion was actually brought onboard for Fallout New Vegas as a consultant. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are good examples of games that can be completely tranformed and improved by mods, and this just isn't possible in the currently restrictive environment of the consoles.
For the hardcore PC Gamer you also have the fact that the hardware will always be improving. It doesn't cost that much now to get PC games looking much better than their consoles counterparts.
