First off, here’s an in-depth video of the game – 30 mins (Xbox version), and I’m not sure if this is the gold edition or not.

Okay, the demo…it was really quite good.  Of course, it was choppy and somewhat rough in certain areas, but it’s a demo.  I must say…Bioware has REALLY put the Unreal engine to good use this generation, and while Dragon Age 2 isn’t as “pretty” as Mass Effect 2, it is certainly a whole lot prettier than Dragon Age.  I’m still annoyed by the lack of ability to jump in the Unreal Engine, so hopefully, that is corrected in the next engine.

The controls of the pretty good, but I really would like to see target lock available.  I played as the Warrior and the Mage, and while it wasn’t much of an issue with the warrior, it was annoying for the mage, specifically the second battle against the ogre.  Overall, the weak damage of the mage was a bit annoying, but they are always weak at the start of the game, and OP by the end.  The dialogue wheel looks much better, and it doesn’t seem to be as much guessing.

The tough choices to make, even before the game action starts is a bit surprising (no spoilers – but picking your class has an immediate impact on the story).  I’m going to be all about romancing Isabella in my first play through and the Viking chick in the second one (I’m a consoling type).  Overall, this looks better than Dragon Age so far, which I thought would be very hard to do, but I hope this  game a “really” bigger than the last, and not just using some number fudging.

As for the negatives…

The cut scenes were much better than DA:O, but they were choppy, and maybe it was just the demo.  In using abilities, there was a bit of choppiness as well, and maybe that was the result of it being a demo as well.  My one knock on all of Bioware’s games is the linear and lack of ability to free roam from a geographical standpoint, and this seems to be the case with the game as well, which is probably why I think Skyrim is going to be the top RPG this year.

Dragon Age doesn't use the Unreal engine. It uses Bioware's own Eclipse engine which they've improved upon in Dragon Age 2.

Are you sure, wiki says it uses "lycium" or this just an upgraded version of Eclipse?
