As far as apple being for newbies, laffo. Sure it's way more user friendly than linux or windows but below the high level API's there's an unix compliant kernel. As for why would one knowledgeable user chose mac os x over linux, that'd be an entire new thread.

I think you misunderstood me, AmigaOS4.x needs to attract more users. Although AmigaOS is very user friendly it works different from what usual people are used to. You can perform the bulk of tasks people do on a Windows PC, but you have to know where to look. It's not like a newbie can walk into a random store and ask questions, call a local support team, etc. You talk to the devs online at specific websites, you usually download your (sometimes still beta) software from the internet at specific websites (stuff which comes out of the box with MacOS or Windows).

What I am saying, the current circumstances do not allow AmigaOS to be an OS suitable for newbies. Windows and MacOS are, IMO Linux isn't neither for a variety of similar and different reasons.

 

Availability of software and maturity might be an issue too and not just for newbies.
