Forums - Gaming Discussion - Problems with *final* Wii Internet browser...???

The new browser is much improved, and fixes many things. It is however NOT perfect, and apart from some additional feature requests - I have had two major problems with it so far. I really hope this news spreads, forces Nintendo to fix these issues and release an updated browser...

i) Try visiting "allsp.com" (South Park streaming site, with lots of annoying popups). This site worked with the beta - although I haven't tried it for a while. It CRASHES my Wii (tried 3 times, and crashes every time). Have to reset by holding the power button on the front of the Wii.

ii) This one is a little more serious. I visited a couple of sites that have videos hosted on MySpace. NONE of them work (audio works, video doesn't). Seems that MySpace is using an updated version of Flash, that the Wii doesn't yet support. Tried a few other sites (on MySpace directly), and I couldn't get ANY of the videos to work. YouTube works fine BTW.

Nintendo PLEASE do something about this, or implement a long-term upgrade/improvement policy. Otherwise I can see the browser becoming very un-useful very quickly.

Additional request: the text entry box is SCREAMING for a "last history" feature. Like FireFox or IE, you should be able to quickly choose/start with a URL that you manually entered before - then edit it. Same applies to other text entry fields. Be even better if this was built into the "keyboard" system, so it could learn/remember your most common/recent entries.

Anyone find any other problems??

Nintendo has firmware updates. So try actually contacting Nintendo about your problems. Asking them here won't do anything.

And if (repeat, if) you came here to ask us to join you, then you should have stated it.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Oh, is the final out? The beta crashed a couple of times on me, so I left it alone. Suggestion: You can contact those websites and ask them to fix their Wii-browser support.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

I would test it out for you as well, but, Nintendo's severs must be getting hammered as it would not let me connect to download the update or anything else. I will try again this evening when I get home from work.

Your best bet would be to go to insiderforums at support.nintendo.com.

Yeah, there's a system update you need to do first.  If you already grabbed the browser, you *may* need to redownload the browser after doing the system update.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

First off. I'm gonna try allsp.com on my PS3. (just curious)
Second, flash is a problem for Wii, as becuase it is such a special OS, adobe will have to compile a new version of flash for the Wii/Opera exclusivly. I'm sure that costs nintendo a pritty penny.  Dont expect too much out of this area.

I'll get this in the near future and mess around with it.

allsp.com does not crash my PS3 but the video wont play.

And the more advanced flash videos dont work on the PS3 either.

(they all work on linux, but that's another story for another day)

This is after the full update process. Im not too worried about allsp - its annoying that it crashes, and it may lead to people creating "Wii-death" sites on the web.

MySpace is another issue - Im surprised Nintendo let that one slip, as its a REALLY major site.

I'll hunt around, and see if I can get some feedback to Nintendo on this one - I'm interested to see what other people can find as well. (I also have some direct developer contacts at NOA, might try them).

I had to re-download the final version it for it to work.

But It works great for me, and I actually never had the problem of having the trial version crash on me like some of you mates have.

In fact, I was rather enjoying some of the great flash games I've played on Newgrounds.com that have been converted for the Wiimote at various sites last night after the update.

I can see its limitations, but honestly I don't mind them. Perhaps it's to help keep pirating/moding down. Plus trying to turn Wii into a multimedia machine defeats the simplicity of its design. Many of the functions one could want the Wii to do, I'll simply use my PC for.

I would like to see how PS3 runs online though, as having used Live and Seganet before the Wii has the both beat easily. I think it's fantastic to have a point and click internet access on any TV I want in the house.
