No idea. This is my first FE game. I haven't played the previous ones. I turned perma off because it sounds like a PITA. From what I have read, but cannot confirm from first hand experience, is normal isn't hard but hard is really hard. Which makes me question the balance a bit. For me Rabbids was pefectly balanced. Just hard enough to force the player to plan well, but not so hard the game turned into trial and error. That is my problem with permadeath, I want a strategy game, not trial and error.
