Forums - PC Discussion - Bioshock 2 on PC gets native Nvidia 3D vision support

http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/article/bioshock2pcmegafeature

"Do you support any special display modes? BioShock 2 has been designed from the outset to take advantage of NVIDIA’s GeForce 3D Vision displays. Users with compatible display units and peripherals can experience the world of Rapture in full, breathtaking 3D."

this makes me very happy. I sure know what platform I'll be playing this game on now. :)

This joins Batman Arkham Asylum and Resident Evil 5 as games on PC that have native built in 3D vision support. Basically they are 3D vision certified and work with it 100%... There are about 400 other games available that work excellent as well.

So if 3D is your thing, there is no reason to wait for consoles to get off their ass and deliver an online downloadable game in 3D...Current gen gaming in 3D is in full swing on PC.

Wonder if it'll work properly in Eyefinity.

Wii/PC/DS Lite/PSP-2000 owner, shameless Nintendo and AMD fanboy.

My comp, as shown to the right (click for fullsize pic)

Primary Storage: OCZ Vertex 120 GB
Case: Cooler Master HAF-932
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

How does this work? Can you explain it to me? And what cards/monitor/other crap will i need to do this? I have been dying to try a game in 3d since i saw how awesomely done the movie Avatar was. Most 3d things before that was annoying. but its starting to show some promise.

"Certified"? Surely all games work with it.

I suppose this is like Nvidia's "certified" power supplies for SLI. The PSU has no effect on SLI as long as it's good quality (obviously) but you can pay Nvidia $50, $100, $200 and they'll allow you to put "SLI certified" on it.

So Nvidia gets cash and a news story mentioning 3D Vision, and the developer gets a shiny Nvidia logo and a news story mentioning the game. Win all around, except for when the cost is passed on to the consumer.

@sharky54

- For 3D Vision, you need an (expensive) 120Hz monitor, (expensive) powered active shutter glasses, and a powerful Nvidia graphics card (GTX260 or above for decent results). As a rough rule, framerates are cut in half when you enable 3D.

lol, this is slightly different.

The nvidia certified 3D vision games will not have a single non 3D element to them. The games thmselves are designed with 3D vision in mind and the Nvidia 3D Driver is updated before the games release to work semlesly with it.

Other games whicha re not certified may have issues such as 2D crosshair or 2D grass and other non 3D elements.

You need this

http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_GeForce_3D_VisionKit_us.html

then you need this or other Nvidia certified monitors

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001311

or this and other current Mitsubishi DLP TVs

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Mitsubishi+-+60%22+Class+1080p+Rear+Projection+DLP+HDTV/9487192.p?id=1218112691007&skuId=9487192

And finally you need a computer with a quad core processor and GTX260 and above to run the latest games smoothly.

Quadcore is covered, I only have a GTX250(Looking to upgrade it though). What would i need to use as a keyword to search through monitors to find the ones that can do 3d(thats small and is missing an HDMI I wanna use one thing for my consoles and my computer)

Your choices are very limited for monitors - http://www.3dmovielist.com/3dhdtvs.html

Only 5 available that are supported at the moment.

You can get the new Acer GD235HZ 24 inch monitor. Or you can get one of the 2 Samsung plasmas or Mitsubishi DLP TVs if you want over 40 inches.

As far as 3D quality - DLP > LCD > Plasma

Both LCd and plasmas have slight ghosting.

What is DLP? I have never heard of that. And there are none smaller then 40 inches? lol thats huggge.

DLP are rear projection TVs. They use a texas instruments DLP chip which is able to implement checkerboard 3D in a very clever way. People don't like them since they can be a bit bulkier on the back but picture quality on them is excellent.

Only Mitsubishi makes them as of 2009. Samsung made them in 2008 and I have a 67 inch Samsung DLP TV. I wouldn't trade it for anything on the market at the moment.

If you want to be the coolest guy on the block, you need to buy this - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Mitsubishi+-+82%22+Class/1080p/120Hz/DLP+HDTV/9331412.p?id=1218086216918&skuId=9331412
