the BR drive is very easy to remove/replace If you can get the top off the PS3 its going to take about 2 minutes to remove the old one and put the new one in. Before that maybe try a lens cleaner disc for blu-ray drives. |
no they are more likely to charge you the next time you report a fault. old ps3's are more prone to failing, so i would not risk it that is all... he may well get a fee fix from sony, other guy's have, so i cannot see why not.
as for the backwards compatibility it's not that big of a deal i had it too once, did not really use it as still has my ps2 (to other people it might be more important tho)
