It happened today it's a 60 GB so it's out of warranty. I've already tried using different games tried cds dvds only the loading circle appears. i even cleaned it with canned air. Then i did a full hd format after that i reset the default settings and still nothing.

I've never had problem like this before what are my options? I'd only take it a part as a last resort is there a chance Sony would fix it as a courtesy?

ring them up, suck up to them big time and hope they either fix it for free, or give you a ps slim .
i know the bd drive costs a lot to fix/replace, so if they want to charge, you may be better off buying a ps3 slim

Try sony for free but if they charge i would buy a slim.

BD Drive is cheap, take a look at internet shops... it will cost no more tahm 90 bucks... comes with manual for you to do all maintence.

You can pay ~$150 for a repair from Sony, or if you are adventurous you could buy a broken PS3 off the internet (so a YLOD would be the best bet) and then take the Blu-ray drive out of it and put it in yours.

yes but that means he will get no futher sony support for his ps3 in the future, that is not a recommended move.

Its 190 for shipping and tax with sony. You can get a 3rd party to repair it for like 130 bucks with a longer warranty or you can go on ebay and buy the laser for 50 dollars and only takes about an hour to replace if you are tech savvy. I'm repairing my own and seeing how that goes and then Im doing a co-workers if all goes well for 100 bucks.

Its really easy the most expensive part so far is the tools.

The usual technique was turning the console upside down (when off of course).
