Yakuza games have been successful, but Shenmue sold way more than Yakuza and was a downright bomb.  Unless they can find a way to make the game at a way lower budget then they have in the past then it should not be made.  Shenmue has been the type of game that requires a big budget though, and i don't think moving from dreamcast to PS3 is gonna help much.  This game isn't really much a system seller at all, i don't see any reason why Sony would want to lose money by funding a game that isnt' gonna sell that well.  They have made their stance on 3rd party exclusives clear, they want to own the IP if they are gonna dish out the money for it.

Sony should get a Shenmue collection going.

See how it sells and decide if there is an interest, then make a decision to finance the 3rd.

Come on, Shenmue isn't that "big" title ever. It couldn't even help DreamCast to survive. And it's too old that I don't know

how many players in the market now could remember it. Spending money on Yazuka or Valkyria Chronicles will be much

Why should Sony pay millions to get the rights to a weak franchise? Shenmue didn't help sell Dreamcast consoles (even with its million in sales). It certainly didn't do well on XBOX (dropping down to only 300,000 sold compared ot its predecessor). And frankly, it is little more than an afterthought in the mind of Sega fans and 'what if' hardcore fans who remember the days of the Dreamcast.

What could it possibly hope to benefit going to the PS3 aside from some dry hype and hopefully selling to some Sega fans....which are mostly buying Wii games?

Shenmue was the first AAAA title ever. And sold like a B- game.

It's not going to be any different now. Specially if you put a big 3 on the name.

Yes would be great Shenmue 1-2 in HD like GOW 1-2 and Shenmue 3 on one disc.

First Shenmue was on DC it had a limited market and was practically unknown to the masses. And people dont wanted to buy DC because they already saw Sega as losing company. After Segas add ons and the Saturn. I know a lot of people which would have bought it if they knew about it and if it wasnt on DC.

And then Shenmue was on Xbox (why Sega why so stupid) Practically NO Japanese audience (600k Xbox LTD in Japan). And also just two times more user then DC.

make a PS3 game out of it and release all parts as a collection and make some ads. People will love it. If they wont I dont get it is there a reason not to buy Shenmue ? I dont understand Sega, they practically destroyed the franchise because they marketed it so stupid and released it on the wrong consoles. Why no PS2 release ? I was so pissed.

Come on Sony finance this shit. I wonder why we see hundreds of Sonic games but where are the really good Sega games ? Some Sega Saturn rereleases would be also great like Nights and Panzer Dragoon.

If Sony helped to make "collection" for Shenmue, similar to the God of War Collection. Then should take the less expensive route of digital distribution.

As much as I loved the Shenmue series. I have doubts it'll ever be resurrected nor will it be a great seller on ANY platform at this point. It might as well go on the Wii since there's a higher chance of breakeven due to the number of Wii out there. At least it'll be a way above average shovelware.
