Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Future: Japanese development isn't dying

I think the author nailed the point about the japanese market... unknowingly.

How? He decided to leave out the three best selling consoles out there. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's going wrong here.

Good that hd games are being made, too bad that devs are trying to one up pc graphics when it's just not business wise.

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.

Ever heard of ROK Pictures?  They were one of the big 5 studios during the Golden Age of Hollywood.  It's not unheard of for companies that were major players or even dominated in their respective industries to lose their place because of changes in it.

I can name "beasts" as you call them in many different industries that are now either long gone or nothing like their former selves.  I'm not talking about next generation, I'm talking about generations from now where things will be much different than they are now.

I'm not denying this is a possibility (albeit slim), but that's why I said 10 years (being pretty extremely conservative there).

I can understand you takling about generations from now, but I don't see the point. We have no idea where gaming will go, hell, do we even know how games will play 2 gens from now? What about next gen?

The only thing we're sure of is the direction is no longer purely on the visuals, which is what has been ramping up the development costs. The costs slowing down and becoming more manageable seems like a reasonable assumption to make, after seeing the winners (in profits, not revenue) this gen.

No, probably because their name was RKO Pictures.

And then you have companies like Paramount pictures who were founded in 1912, and are still making movies to this day.
Nintendo has been around since the end of the 19th century and is currently an obscenely profitable gaming company that is in a far better position then most every other video game company currently in existence. Generations from now you're far more likely to see Nintendo still making video games, then many of the current "HD" developers who spent themselves into bankruptcy for your precious XBOX 360.
You can dislike Nintendo all you want Legend, it isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Nintendo, Level-5 and Hudson are the only 3 studios who've really made significant gains this generation. And none of them are focused on HD. Of course, that's still better than the west, where people are going bankrupt or coming ever closer to it.

When Nintendo dies, Japanese games will die.

That will probably occur when our sun implodes, in approximately 15 million years.
But maybe not, because Nintendo will be so rich it'll have money to buy us a brand new sun - complete with two black eyes on it!

lol, this is so stupid.

"Japanese gaming is dieing (note, we ignored the Wii/DS/PSP so we could make this point)"

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

To me Japanese games are still better than western games. That is just my preference though.
