Forums - PC Discussion - Video card question

So, I've been waiting a while for the monitor I have go to on sale somewhere, so I'd buy a third one to complete my Eyefinity setup - which I did today.

However, I still have to wait on Dell to ship out the DVI -> DisplayPort adapter I need to use it with my video card... so for the time being, though I can't game on it obviously, I'd at least like to be able to run it off the IGP on my motherboard.  Is this possible, or am I just gonna have to wait on Dell?

Basically, is it possible to run monitors off of both a video card and an IGP simultaniously, and if so, how?

so you're gonna have that 3 display setup?

I'm wondering, does that do like 3D, cut your performances in 2 or does it just depend on the resolution you pick? basically, does it just consider the thing as one big display, putting 3 screens at 1200x800 being the same as a big one at 2400x1200?

for your question... no idea sorry :p

I'm going to assume you mean Integratedl Graphics Port, when you say IGP.

And I have absolutely no idea if that's actually possible, but my gut feeling is that it wouldn't be.

It would require the integrated graphics to talk serious business with your graphics card, and that doesn't sound like something they would be good at. But I know nothing. If you manage to make it work, please let me know :)

Well, I'll be doing 5760x1200, so theoretically it'll be 1/3 as good as 1920x1200, but it won't always work out like that since with v-sync on, everything's getting capped at 60 fps, where as the card can easily push some games in excess of that.

I've tried some games across the two screens, which was annoying for FPS cause the crosshair's split right in the middle of the two, but L4D, Batman: AA and Dead Space all ran at flawless 60 fps, Dragon Age was also for the most part 60 fps... however Crysis was much less than 60 fps. :D

Short answer:
No

:)

The onboard graphics wouldn't be able to handle any games or anything anyway but I don't believe its possible to use both onboard and discrete graphics at the same time. However I've seen some crazy hacks down with PCs so it 'may' be possible but I would just wait ;)

I found a problem with your plan though... your desk doesn't seem large enough in the picture :p

Yeah, I know that the onboard graphics are crap.

Oh well.

Well, judging by the fact that I have three monitors on it in front of me, fitting perfectly on the desk, it isn't a problem. :P

How powerful are the onboard graphics?

Radeon HD 3200 IIRC.

Whatever 790GX chipset has.

An HD 3200 is pretty good for integrated graphics, but probably not good enough for what you're doing, though.
