there's no solid definition of casual v hardcore, it seems to be a matter of opinion, which will actually be discussed in Episode 5 of the VGC Crunch This! podcast.

Game library.

Altrough hardcore games on Wii exist there's only a few of them - Metroids, Resident Evil 4, SMG, Zelda, Capcom vs Tatsunoko etc.

I dont actually like the tags hardcore and casual, but this article started it so....

Whilst it is true to say all consoles will have hardcore gamers playing them and hardcore games on them, the 360 and PS3 will have more hardcore games and gamers due to a number of factors thus we can call them more hardcore consoles, couple of points could be......

1.  the biggest selling games and most of its fans prefer what would commonly be caledl hardcore games. 

2. online gaming, with tournaments, clans etc etc

now, at the other guy, why am i ridiculous....  or was it a knee jerk throw away insult?

 

1. the biggest selling games are mostly on Wii and you cant get more hardcore then Mario kart (even it it is also a casula experience), NSMB is as hardcore as it gets.

2. Has nothing to do with hardcore, a game and a console can and is hardcore with out online even if I prefer to have it as a compliment to my hardcore needs. The tournament part is lacking but its somewhat there in Mario kart but it clearly needs lots of improvement.

 

Edit: I dont like the labels either but a true harcore gamer will have a HD and a Wii or he isnt a true hardcore gamer.

This is a very interesting article, I don't agree with all of it, but I would agree about the mature games thing.

Games that teenagers love (even though they shouldn't be playing them), are not true mature games. Sure, they are rated mature, but there is nothing mature about mindless violence and profanity. A lot of 20-30 year olds play these games as well, but they tend to be adults who are stuck in their childhood.

These same people will dismiss the Mario's or the Pixar films of the world as being childish, because the bright colour scheme scares them.

A truly mature individual would be able to see the widespread appeal in such things, rather than cowering away, clinging to his copy of the 'mature' gamers bible, MW2 or some other mindless shooter...

but then how can the 360 be more hardcore when it lacks in other departments to trully be a full hardcore console?

It doesnt have NSMB for example and you cant get more hardcore then a 2d sidescrolling platformer like NSMB

That's a funny joke. PC with either of HD twins gives you much much broader choice of good core games than Wii plus HD console.

simplistic and generalised nonsense

I love what would be called hardcore games, I also love to play Viva pinata and take my daughter to watch all the pixar movies....

Then you aren't the kind of person I was talking about. Don't make the mistake of thinking that I said anyone who plays games like that is like that.

I'm on about those who ONLY play those games.

This is a fair article.

It basically makes the point that M-rated does not equal hardcore. And that the Wii caters for a broad audience whereas other consoles don't.
