Forums - Sony - So here's what I think of the PS3

Package: You are complaining about it and give it a F. What should you have included if you were Sony? I can understand that you complain about the HD Cable but if ya buy a 500$ then is complaining about a HD cable really funny how much does a HD Cable cost this days? 5-15$? PSN: Again a F.... You are complaining about the license agreement where you have to scroll down 2 minutes, It is only one time that you have to do this and it is better that you read it then just press agree without reading it. I agree the PSN doesn't look very well but I really don't care about, if ya want to download a demo you just go to the store , then to games demo's and download it. It works okay would have given it rather a C. Menu: Agree totally but you get used to it (I was used to after a week). Uncharted: I am not impressed by the demo and my freelancer friend gave it a 8 on 10 (finished the game). I think this game will get some 9's and a lot of 8's. Motorstorm: I have to say I was impressed but I hate racing games so I really didn't played it. HS: I liked it (prefer GOW though) it deserved the scores that it got.

Downloading demos, you don't need to scroll through anything. Just click on download demo. That simple. It does NOT make you scroll through any agreements.

IN the Uncharted demo, the only way the message goes away is if you press "x". You made the message go away. Thats your fault.

Did try the online out in Motorstorm?

When going through the PSN store, the buttons to exit, go to the prev page, and next page are at the bottom of the screen.  In order to get to the bottom of the screen you have to go through a box of text that scrolls.  That's what I'm talking about in the scrolling.  It's a pain in the ass and just bad.

As for saying that the message part in Uncharted is my fault, that's bullshit.  I climb up a cliff, get a message, and then immediatly start getting shot without any kind of warning.  What do you think I'm going to do?  I'm going to start pressing buttons because I have no clue what's going on.  That little encounter was just terribly placed and it's not my fault that whoever made that little piece didn't understand that concept of flow.

And I haven't tried online for Motorstorm yet, I'll try it eventually, I'm just not a huge online gamer (one reason I don't care about Warhawk).

I actually find some of his complaints decent :D I'm an avid Sony supporter and I will say right off the bat, the cables they sent were GARBAGE. The usb cable is a joke, and the regular old school ps1 cables were laughable :P. HOWEVER, day 1 purchase for me was HDMI for our 42inch LCD, and boy does our tv thank us. But anyways...

The PSN needs work, it really does. But it doesn't have that much content, and the menu's are pretty simple. I do hate not having a "list all" category. But other than that I have no real complaints.

The XMB is god. I ADORE that cross media bar, I have a psp and I'm very used to it. Its got a very simple, very clean interface. I LOATHE the 360's setup, I get adds and crap thrown all over my screen. Thanks, but no thanks. And we won't even talk about the Wii's. So as far as the interface goes, I give the PS3 my vote of the 3.

The games. Well everyone's entitled to their opinions :P. In fact if I compare your ratings to the PS3's first year, to MY ratings of the 360's first. You look very generous :D I find ps3 titles to be pretty awesome for its first year of release, I've enjoyed Resistance, heavenly, ratchet, warhawks, Super stardust, and the new Uncharted demo QUITE a bit. I'm actually quite impressed, but again were all entitled to our opinions :D

I do find it a bit odd that you had problems with the Sixaxis controlls in Uncharted :P they worked smooth as silk for me, maybe you just don't have it down pat yet lol Same with the melee xD I messed up the first time attempting, havent had a single problem since. And the cover feels WAY better than that in Gears. But hey, were going back to opinons so the point is moot.

I think as a GAME CONSOLE, it's not all it could be, it really isn't. It's got some GREAT games, but they won't appeal to the 360/nintendo gamers. They simply expect too much. It's the same with me and 360/nintendo games, I'm expecting facial animations to mirror heavenly swords (they haven't), I'm expecting as many things on screen as Ratchet (yet to see), and I'm expecting audio to blow me away, (uncharted, heavenly sword, warhawks). And I haven't found those yet on any of the competition. But hey, I look for different things in video games than you do, so I'm sure you have your reasons. The ONLY game I'm impressed with on the 360 even 2 years into its life cycle is Bioshock, and it certainly isn't the textures or graphic quality of the game that does it, just the artistic direction.

However as a MEDIA CENTER. I'm more than breathtaken, the upscaling from DVD's is almost un-precedented, Blu-ray movies are simply wonderfull, and HDMI video/audio is really top-notch. When I saw the demo for Uncharted supported 7.1 audio, it made me tip my hat for sure. With the new PSP - PS3 connectivity, I can stream content from my ps3 to my psp (Still confuses me how it works but boy does it :D ), We've been using it to watch youtube videos and if you do the fullscreen the quality really goes down the shitter, but if you zoom in on the smaller picture, you get some surprisingly good quality (considering its a youtube vid). Paired with free online play, I coulden't be more happy with my center focus on home entertainment.

So I guess all and all I find some of your complaints worthy of this thread :P. I do think you've forgotten that this is the first year for my beloved console, and that you've completely overlooked some of the things that make it unique, but as a GAME CONSOLE, I will give you that :P I just think you should have re-thought the title of the thread. Give it that failing grade as a console in its FIRST YEAR, but as a unit it's self the rating seems slightly biased.

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

You could've made the OP so much shorter and easier to read.

"Everything about the ps3 sucks."

There. That's a good summary.

No you don't, you just have to use the left analog stick to move the pointer around.

I didnt feel like quoting your entire complaint but I dont see where your coming from at all.

Packaging: ? Why are you even reviewing this... I have yet to have a video game system Atari to the Wii that packaged the console, controller, extras, and cables that made 100% sense. There really wasnt worth reviewing honestly.

PSN Store: Your only looking at 1 part of the PSN and yet your knocking the whole darn thing. Add some people to your friends list. My PSN is schnacky add me. The store is still not even a year old and they improved the overall search for demos/content that you might have missed. I went through and saw they broke things down even more. It will improve Xbox Live on the original Xbox sucked major the first 2 years it was out. Also download flOw and Calling All Cars for crying out loud.

XMB (Cross-media bar): This I dont see how your knocking at all. Its the cleanest menu system for all 3 console and pretty easy to learn. Honestly it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to use the Dashboard for the 360 and another 15 to figure out how to get rid of it in-game. The Wii, the easiest of them all just isnt nice to look at. Boring white with blocks for each object/channel. For ease of use the Wii wins for cleanliness the XMB wins for me.

Uncharted: I agree with your issues so no argument here

Motorstorm: I see where your getting at because I'm not really that much of a racing game player. Grant it I do enjoy NFS: Underground and Most Wanted, Gran Turismo, and Cruis'n. Motorstorm takes a while to get used to but remember to download the new maps. The 10 new vehicles and 2 new tracks adds a ton of value to the game.

Heavenly sword: Almost want to agree but I can but cant. Its hard because its similar to God of War but its like Kratos had his balls chopped off. its good but you have to get used to it. Honestly F+ is harsh.. at least give it a D-.

Cant wait till you give R&C and Folklore a review. =]

Glad to see you have a PS3 at least.

Wow...

Ok Twestern, I can understand why the guy who constantly complains about every single aspect of the PS3 didn't like his initial impressions with it (because he's already decided that he hates it!), but I can't understand why the guy who constantly complains about every single aspect of the PS3 would buy one? you knew you'd hate it. You'd probably decided to hate it before it even came out. And I say "probably" instead of "definately" only because this site wasn't around at the time.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

I mainly mentioned that because I'm still angry that it didn't come with proper cables.  Sure, it's like $20-30 for the cables but that's beside the point.  The PS3 is advertised everywhere as the uber gaming machine that will bring people into the HD world yet they only give you the standard cables.

PSN Store: Your only looking at 1 part of the PSN and yet your knocking the whole darn thing. Add some people to your friends list. My PSN is schnacky add me. All I can comment is on the PSN as I've seen it.  So far, I just don't like how it's organized.  As I play with it I might like it more but as it stands right now I just don't like how it works.

I do like how it's very clean but some of the tabs have almost nothing and then ones like the system tab have a crapload of options and each of those have more.  Also, just the navigation of those just kind of bothers me, once again, personal preference.

The real meat and potatoes of my post was the games part anyways.  The above complaints don't matter a lot in the grand schemes of things, it should be the games that make a game console shine (note-- I don't care if you call the PS3 a media center).

And looking forward to Folklore.

Interesting, for somebody who spends lots of time looking at news and such on video games, you apparently never knew that the PS3 only came with composite cables? Probably not, but it does seem like it. Anyway, you could easily go to a video game place and pick up some cheap component cables (mine from gamestop were only $15 and they work for PS3 (which is also universal to PS1 and PS2), Xbox, and the Xbox 360) or go online to a place like newegg.com and pick up a $10 HDMI cable (which is how much the one I use for my PS3 was).

Bias against the PS3? I'd say a little bit since I've enjoyed Motorstorm, Resistance, Warhawk, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, and other games as well as having access to my PC, an Xbox, an Xbox 360, and a Wii.

Whatever, that's your opinion.
