@fighter: maybe they just realized that there are other platforms like the Wii and the PS3 which is just as good and maybe even better? Or maybe they just don't like getting suckered into buying overpriced proprietary add-ons and double paying for being able to play the games they have bought online.

You know what? I've owned my 360 from launch and haven't spent a penny on "overpriced proprietary add-ons", and barely anything for Live ~$15

Meh, 360's been a pretty noble effort compared to the original Xbox.  It's really deserved every scrap of success it's managed, and the odds have been insurmountably stacked against it since day one.

If you want to point to company who really lost the plot this gen, it's Sony.  Fuck, they're lucky Monster Hunter single handedly saved PSP for them, otherwise they'd be SCREWED.

Mark my words : this is the beginning of a new era for Xbox360 - the third place.

But, it is very sad to see Xbox360 doing so bad in Japan. Perhaps focus on FPS and guns (most japanese people hate it) cursed the console there.
