Forums - Sony Discussion - Buying A UPS For PS3

I am going to buy a new UPS for my PS3 because when I play Uncharted 2 my UPS (600watts) doesnt hold and when the power goes away my system turns off with it and last time it wouldn't turn back on (not even to stand by mode) for about 5 minutes. So can someone please tell me of how many watts should I get the new UPS so that it won't turn off because of the power. Thank you.

If I read that right, are you talking about an uninterruptible power supply? If that's right, aren't those just for giving you a few minutes to turn off your electronics safely in the event of a power outage?

If this is all correct, it seems like you're expecting that to act like a generator or something when it's really just a bunch of batteries designed to save the data on a device like your computer from being lost by continuing to power the device (ex- a computer) for a few minutes so you can save what you need to and shut it down safely if the power goes out. Then since it's using batteries to give you that extra few minutes of power, they'll need to be charged before they can be used again.

If I've misunderstood, please tell me.

I mean an uninterruptible power supply so that i can save my data you know so it gives me 5 minutes i dont expect it to work as a generator. I just need an advice on which one to buy.

P.S So yes you are right.

You're going to have to take your tv into account as well. How many watts is your tv pulling, or what kind is it.

600 VA unit can easily power up PS3 and something like 32-40" tv.

Either the charger module is dead in your UPS or batteries are dead.

Try it with another piece of electronic device and if it behaves same way replace it under warranty or buy new one (or try replacing batteries if you know how to do it).

Am i understanding this? Did he say his tv doesn't turn off when the power goes out? I really don't understand how not being HD would mean it doesn't turn off.

No, his TV isn't in danger of losing data.

Of course I'm wondering why you need to actually bother with a UPS for your PS3.  I understand you'd like to save your data in case your power goes out, but I don't know, I wouldn't really worry about it unless you're in a place that something like that frequently happens.

It seems more like a waste than any save data that *might* be lost.

How could an HDTV lose data? I am absolutely positive that my tv wouldn't be affected if i just unplugged it while i was using it.

Are you just not reading what people wrote or you trying to fuck with me?  o.O

He's not worried about losing data on his TV because his TV has no data so he has no need to plug it into his UPS.
