Forums - Sony - Is my PS3 dying?

I have not gotten a YLOD yet, but I have seen the following happen:

* I have gotten shocked trying to hit the on/off button in front of my PS3.

* I have seen multiple games freeze up on me: Home, God of War III demo, and R&C Future: Crack in Time.  I had to shut things down, by turning the switch in back off and on.

* I also had one time where I wasn't getting video output recently through HDMI.

Anyone know if my PS3 might be going?  I hope not, because I have a 60GB Backwards compatible one, and I don't want to have to lose the backwards compatibility feature. I have limited space here, so to have to add a PS2 on top of my other set up, is annoying.

It would be easier for me to just go out and buy a PS2 and avoid all this gore.  Anyhow, if I am not into GTA, then I am not into being a psycho with a machete.  Now, if you have a hockey mask for me, I might reconsider it

Do your X360 stands next to the PS3? Because if that's the case it will recognize the MS console and rebel against it's owner, forcing you to play only the X360 until you get the RROD. Then your PS3 will be back to normal.

I have the Wii between the two trying to mediate actually.

But on a more serious note, I think I may want to increase the space between the systems to avoid heat issues.

Never shut down the PS3 by using the switch in the back, you can ruid the HDD by doing that. If your PS3 locks up, hold the power button down for 5 seconds, it forces a shutdown. Otherwise, I dont know what is wrong with your console, game lock-ups happen all the time for any console I have ever had. Dont know about the output thing, never had that problem. The shock thing is probably just built up static.
