Forums - PC Discussion - A question about SLI and PhysX

Yeah, you can use an unmatched card with your SLI setup... I've heard anything with over 8 ROPs is enough. There's even a mod to use an ATi card for graphics and a nVidia card just for physics, and usually a 9800 GT is enough.

And holy crap man, you probably have the most powerful setup in VGChartz haha

I'm gonna have to run out and buy a second 5870 because of that now, thanks. :P

What does that have to do with anything? <_<  Nvidia isn't getting anywhere near my PC.

Awww whats with the nVidia hate?

My last build was all AMD and ATI.

My current one is Intel and nVidia.

I'm finding nVidia is performing a bit better and has less graphical issues.

I'm going to be sticking with ATi more or less regardless of what happens because they're Canadian. :P

At least until Fermi's out, AMD'll have the performance lead. Right now, I'm just waiting on them to push out a 5890 that performs comparably to and, in terms of price, undercuts the flagship Fermi derivative a few days before Nvidia launches it. :D

haha thanks I'm power hungry though and keep trying to push my clocks and do whatever I can to just boost myself.

I want to add in 4 more gigs of RAM, and maybe set myself up for water cooling so I can push my clocks more.

If your wondering I have a q9650 @ 3.6

and I found a way to overclock my cards even though they're in SLI.

Clocks are 720/1532/1400

I want to run in tri SLI, but from what I've seen in games is that if you just have a card dedicated for physX on physX compatible games then it beats Tri SLI setups with ease and you don't need a card nearly as good (IE i save a crap load of cash)

From what I seen from the Fermi though it looks like just one of those will make it so you don't need a dedicated card...

I don't blame them for the nvidia hate to be honest. Nvidia cards are more expensive, have issues with sound through HDMI, and Nvidia in general has pretty shaddy support for all their products. 3D vision for example...says on the box that it supports generic DLP and CRT that do 120 hz. However for the last 3 months, they have had an issue with their driver updates and have locked out all CRT users as well ass Samsung DLP owners.

They keep saying that they are working on it but they've had 4 patches and still nothing...There is a hack to get the new drivers to work on a Smasung DLP, which is what Im using for my Sammy. Here is a thread full of pissed off people

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=151885

With that in mind, 3D vision and what it offers is amazing. However as soon as ATI or someone else offers a similar product I am jumping ship...

This about sums up my feelings about Nvidia. :)

haha yeah it is expensive I'll give ya that, but it works :P

I don't mind either of them really, nVidia cost more, but it's running smoother for me.
