So, im finally done with this Game.
And as i promised in my Agarest Short Review, here's one for Cross Edge, with my typical issues in longer texts in english - so enjoy. :P
The Story:
one of the worst i have ever seen in RPGs. The Atmosphere lives by the Characters put into, and if you are like me (i havent played a single game related to this) you'll actually sigh very often. (a good thing is the humour, i laughed a lot. Even if it sure is funnier if you know the guys).
Its about York (one of the few Characters made for this Game) and Miko (new as york.. .. <- lol ^^), who find themselfes in a strange place they've never been before. So they're travelling this new World, seeking for informations how to return Home, and of course gathering new allies, who share the fact to be suddently at this place, with no idea whats going on.
after some hours, you'll learn about 'The Empyreal One', who is creator of this World, trying to absorb strong souls from other Worlds, to make his one come true. (The world is actually something like a dream, and has to become a true one, but i wont spoil anything).
as i said, absolutely nothing special, but not boring as hell either. 6/10
The Soundtrack:
Im dissappointed. This Game is made by Compile Heart, the ones who made Agarest, but like the Story, the Music cant touch Agarest. 6/10
The Battle:
The Battle System is epic. Its a mixture of Agarest and common Turnbased Systems, and it feels yet very fresh. The good thing, is that its very friendly to newbies, it'll only take some minutes to learn how to fight correctly with it, and its the part of the Game who keeps the motivation high enough to finish this Game.
The Combat is turn based: whoever has the higher AGI stat begins - you'll pick the Character you want (max. 4 at once) and start one of his or her attacks, what will start a Counter. while the Counter runs towards 0, you can launch additional attacks - of the same character, or of the others. (you could wait the counter to finish, because you can proceed with thrwoing attacks out until every Char's AP are too low to do something) starting other attacks while the Counter of your first one stil runs allows you to combinate attacks to Uber-combo-moves, and to Overkill your enemies (damaging them for 200% of their maximum life number) what may give you better items for the kill.
instead of attacking, you can change your active members, use items, change the settings, etc. 9,5/10
The System:
there are 3 Parts of Gameplay - the Scenes, the Worldmap and Dungeons.
The Scenes are like the ones in Agarest: you'll see a nice background graphic, and the Pictures of your talking Members.
The Worldmap.. sucks. you can travel it like the ones from FF6 and co., but you have to search for events by hitting the Square-Button. (and it can be a HELL, at worst you fight 50 times before you find the next destination-point. half of the events are shown on your map, but the ones you have to search can be damn frustrating.)
The Dungeons are made in 2D, its kinda 2D Mario, youre jumping and runnning (mostly straight forward) till you reach the other end, and of course the RPG typical random encounters can trigger.
(3,5/10 for the W-Map, 5/10 for the Dungeons, and 6,5 for the Story-Scenes... 8-9 for the funny ones) overall 5/10
After all, Cross Edge kept me until i was done, and it took around 40 Hours. If you are a Fan of a.) The Series most of the Characters are from, b.) Compile Heart (Agarest)<- like me // you could have much fun with it until you see the credits, like me. everyone else with interrest in this game should rent it first, because it could also be thrown out money for some.
