Forums - Sony Discussion - Wi-Fi routers recommendation's? [Tech halp please]

Well my mum just got a Cisco Linksys router (she took back something called a belkin or whatever) cuz' the belkin was dropping in signal powa quite abit. yet it was fine to me at around 75% powa.

However... now that we have this cisco thingy, its slow as a fuckin turtle, i mean damn i went to go check how many of my friends were online... it took 5 fucking minutes to load them, all of them, oddly though the PSN store loads stuff almost instantly and trailers play near instantly.

The web browser is ass to.

it looks almost exactly like this, infact i think it is this...

also there something weird on my ps3 now, it says cisco media server and its weird and it wont go the hell away!

So i kindly ask... halp meh! pretty please with apples on top!

oh and one last thing, i have 60% to 79% signal powa' yet it looks like 25% ish at the maximum, yes thats how slow this shit is... and please... don't say "use it directly from the erthernet you nub face" because i've told my buds in real life the same thing... the modem is not in my room...

now halps meh nao. brb in 7 hours.

I have a netgear wi-fi router, which is pretty good, got it for free when i choose to go for the highest network connection with virgin.
look here http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/WirelessGRouters.aspx, see what you think, they also have some newer and better routers as well, so i advise browsing;)

Check that you are using WPA2 security, just in case neighbours are hijacking your connection. You can hide your SSID for a little bit of security by obscurity.

Also, If it supports 802.11n, make sure it's enabled.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

i have a linksys... its 160n works great but if the lights goes out i have to reconnect it

used to be not fully satisfied with my previous router, Trendnet TEW431BRP, as setting it in DMZ worked for most games but a few would not like Bomberman & Uncharted 2, so back in november I upgraded to:

Sitecom Gaming Router WL-308 (didn't know the brand before, it's the high end router offered by my cable company)
http://www.gaming-router.com/index.html

have to say I have been very happy with it, set my ps3 in DMZ and had no issues as before.
The streamengine (it prioritize packets, so VOIP and online gaming get priority over web browsing for example) is working well since ping seems to remain constantly low while playing.
The advanced config lets you configure everything and anything, and you can configure it wireless which not all routers do

Turning off your media server in setting options should help a little. The media server gets in the way of using headsets.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

Nooooooo. Don't get that. Get the Apple Extreme Base Station

$160

I'd like to help you, but I don't know what Powa is :p . I've got a linksys, and it works fine, weird!

alrighty thanks for the help guys, but i found it what it was. it was the last lightning & Thunder storm messing something up and the media server/weird area placement.

got a standard rate @ 85% to 90% now, more then enough for WKC: IE online and bs2 online.

Reminds me of the wired router I'm using now. After a PS3 firmware update back in 2007, I can't get the PS3 to get a NAT2. I used to be able to set the DMZ and be done with it, but ever since then nothing I do works.

I'll have to consider suggestions given in this thread as I'd like to connect without any NAT issues.
