NBC and Leno are assholes.

Jay Leno's audience is getting old, and I hope the ratings get as bad as they can.

Conan rules!

I'd be surprised if that audience comes back honestly.  The fact that the audience didn't move with him pretty much indicates they were there more out of routine rather then liking the show.  With 7 months of the routine being broken... will they come back?

Maybe if they went to Letterman or Kimmel or whoever, but that's not what happened.  Ratings indicate these people went to Cable dramas and the like.  Shows they're now invested in...

I don't see it going too well for Leno.

im coming back

A) Sample of 1... and not what TV experts expect.

B) Why weren't you watching his show at 10?

I do watch the Jay Leno show...not as much as when he was on the Tonight show though

and what i meant by im coming back is I will follow Jay Leno back to the Tonight Show timeslot...I been a fan of Leno since im 9-10 years old I wish Conan luck he's a funny guy but Leno's show is better

Your not really one of the people I was talking about then.

I'm talking about the tons of people that weren't watching is 10 show that made him bomb so bad affiliates needed to kick him off the air because they were costing them tens of millions.

I just read he was getting on average 5 million viewers at the 10 timeslot...is that really that bad when there is a lot of competition at 10 from CBS ABC etc? and to be fair Conan wasn't do any better in fact I read he was only averaging 2-3 million viewers

He was doing so poorly the affiliates threatened to drop him if NBC didn't get rid of him.  He was costing NBC affliates a ton of money.

Yeah... he was doing REALLY badly.  The affiliates were going to air reruns in his place... because he was getting beat by reruns like CSI Miami.

VS Conan who wasn't losing money... in a timeslot that in general gets less ratings. (NBC actually tried to claim it later in the week, but that was debunked as a fudging of figures.)

Actually a LARGE part of the drop in Conan and Fallon's numbers are considered Jay Leno's fault.

Since, Leno ALSO dropped the ratings of the channels local News stations.

His prime time show gets people to turn off the tv afterwords.

I didn't get to see the end of Conan's show because I fell asleep. I think its ridculous that NBC is letting Leno come back to the Tonight Show. Leno hosted the show for 17 years and Conan hosted it for only 7 months. I think this is NBC's biggest disappointment by far.

so your saying EVERYTHING is Leno's fault?

Hi guys. Needless to say I saw this topic and was compelled to join VGC. Let me tell you right here and now, the fault goes to NBC first and foremost.

Now, when Leno was taken off the Tonight Show, he was averaging 5 million viewers a night. He was #1 for years and probably would have still been. Now, it is fair to expect Conan to at least maintain the viewing audience. The fact of the matter is at the same time slot, he lost 2 million viewers. If he had been able to hold the audience, the situation wouldn't be so bad.

The affiliates are often mentioned. The jay leno show had been severely detrimental to the ratings of the late local news on NBC affiliates. Several stations across the country have seen what is known as the "Leno Effect", where the lower audience for Leno (as compared to NBC's scripted prime time offerings) is translating directly into severe audience drops for late local news (on the order of 25–30% The local news was suffering because it had to be played at 11 instead of 10. That extra hour really ticked them off.

Now, had Conan been doing well, all NBC would have to do is cut jay leno free and focus their attention on Conan. the fact that Conan lost millions in viewers meant that NBC would have to restructure their late night line up again.

Finally, Conan didn't want to move time slots. When he refused, it was inevitable that he would leave NBC.

So, is it leno's fault? partially. Nobody expected his show to be a big hit. Is it conan's fault? a little more- he didn't keep his audience. Is it NBC's fault? without a doubt. They shouldn't have mixed up the late night viewings in the first place.
