There is a difference between an imminent update to the current Wii system primarily intended to satisfy a demand for HD on Wii, and the launch of a next generation system years from now that incorporates HD technology into a larger project for general advancement.

Yeah, it's pretty much established that Michael Pachter knows jack-shit about the business of video games... And yet the mainstream media relies on his opinion so much that... uh, well, it's disturbing...
