Mainstream media = old people.

Video games = young people.

Old people are confused by young people and afraid of things they don't understand. Rock and roll went through this, as did television and pretty much any other significant development in media and culture.

Eventually, most of the people who don't understand will die off and video games won't seem so scary anymore.

The video game industry has to "mature" but not in physical age but in mental/emotional maturity. You don't get obvious fanboi/troll behavior (in general) in the bigger movie/music/art critics and analysts in their industries, especially when you compare them to the video game industry.

Hell, there lots of "old" people who truly enjoy video games. And there are "young" people in mainstream media. The generations are meeting up age wise, but not maturity wise. The folks who represent this industry act in a way that gives us all a bad rep. It's going to take more instances like Child's Play and less IGN reviews.

I have been more impressed with the posters here (on this site in general) than with a lot of the industry's representatives. And there are quite a few posters here who would be considered kids, of course there is a slew of us who were Atari jockeys and are now getting our own kids into video games. Don't let physical age jade your perspective of others be it the young or the old.
