Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony closer to breakeven on PS3

Including the controller, box, manuals, cables, shipping etc. they're probably losing more than $50 per unit.

But Sony doesn't sell them for 299.99$ so that 31.27 figure is wrong.

I also heard isupply goes off what the part goes for (or would go for if it were availble) at retail. So basically doesnt take into consideration bulk discounts.

No way... where can you buy 512 MB of memory for $10 ? Or a Blu-ray drive for $66 ?

$50 price cut in september

Ooooh, they're closer to breaking even on each individual sale. But then they'll have to sell them for many more years at a profit to try to dig themselves out of their hole, especially with the PS2 and PSP sales drying up, leaving the Triple all on its own. I wonder how long it will take, especially since they just dumped tons of money into their new Motion Controller.

Man this is getting interesting.

where did you hear these arent included? I see a colum for "other parts" and id assume those fall into that.

That's awesome for sony, that means they can finally focus on improving the other features of the console even more. When they start to lose ground to the Xbox 360 again I think instead of a price drop they should bundle the wireless headset and keyboard - what do you guys think?

MSS

46$ is pretty much from ancient hardware (RSX is basically 7800 GT). No wonder that MS didn't continue their partnership with nvidia after original xbox.

The previous Isuppli reports never matched up with what Sony said, so why should we believe their new cost analysis report?

They said something like $30 when Sony publicily stated $80 or something similar.

Either way, this is starting to feel like that one equation... where the two lines get closer and closer together yet somehow never intersect.

Why does a 2x BD-ROM drive cost S66?, seems like it should be lower. I'm surprised the xdr is so cheap, at prices that low, if the PS4 uses xdr or xdr2, it better have at least 4 gigs of it.
