Forums - General Discussion - Cigarette prices in your area?

honestly twesterm, cry me a river bro. You've been preaching this stuff for a year now.

And to throw your own words back at you, live with it.

not all smokers smell like ass, there is a lot of people who take care of their hygiene. It's unfortunate however that the smokers you're around don't throw a piece of gum in their mouth after a cigarette, or don't shower or change their clothe after 3 days of smoking.

I am just curious to know what everyone has to pay for cigarettes in their country/state/etc...

Here in NY we pay around $8/pack and they are planning to raise it even further now.

Not a smoker but one of my co-workers pays about $6.00-$7.00 and like you said they plan to raise the prices.  Also alot of places aren't allowing people to smoke in public places.

twestern- If you met some smokers that think that they don't smell, well that's just dumb. And I don't have any problem with you hating the way they smell. I have a problem with people thinking that they are somehow better than smokers, like because they happened to dodge a nasty habit that affects millions of people that they are superior genetically or something. And that they have the right to look down on others. Always bothers me. You're not a better person, in fact I would say you're a worse person for being so damn condescending.

It's not that I think I'm better than them (though I think I smell better than them), it's I just don't see why you would start smoking.

And it's twesterm.

LOL! I never noticed the m at the end of your name! Sorry I'm so touchy about this, this was a HUGE pet peeve of mine when I was a smoker. I really like not being one anymore, and the smell is overpoweringly bad (sometimes it's worse than others, I don't know why). I hope you get what I'm saying though, I just don't like people being rude and thinking it's okay no matter what the reason.

You know, it's never their breath that bothers me.  I generally don't get close enough to them to smell their breath because it's just them (or probably their clothes) that stink.

I assume they shower everyday but that doesn't really matter because as soon as you smoke you smell bad.  I've known clean freaks that are extremely concious of messes and smells yet for some reason they smoke and they stink after they smoke.  I would say it's more unfortunate that you hang around with people that are either as nosedeaf as you are or just don't want to tell you how bad you smell.

I use to smoke and now I found it uttlerly disgusting.  Plus just watching how they age people drastically over years.

People are real pricks when it comes to smokers huh? How tall is that horse you're sitting on?

Pretty damned high. Remember, I'm a Libertarian. I believe in distributing as little as possible. If smokers are a burden on the healthcare industry, tax them and put it in a fund for the uninsured smokers to use at a later date.

Take California, for example. About ten years ago, a group decided they didn't like smoking and managed to weasel through a cigarette tax that went to schools (not for smoking education, mind you). Just to the schools to do whatever with... How is that right? I'd like to think people are smart enough to realize that it's not okay to start taxing something just because you don't like it. That's an awfully slippery slope to start down.

In Minnesota the governor got a "User Fee" (because he promised no new taxes) put through which with he balanced the budget. Why would we want to use a tax on something that we don't want people to do to balance our budget? I guess I was just mad because Nicotine is one of the top 5 most addictive substances in the world, doesn't cost the country nearly as much money for health care as obesity and bad eating habits (like a lot of gamers have, I would wager), but it's okay to just say "they dum" and everyone just shakes their heads along with it like they are so much better than smokers. Also, I paid higher insurance rates than a non-smoker when I was, and it hasn't gone down yet. Do people that stay up all night eating Cheezy poofs and drinking red-bull have to pay higher rates? I don't think so.

Exactly. I have an incredible dislike for obese people (don't ask why, I don't really know) but I'm not about to start advocating for fast food legislation. That's their choice. Part of this world involves dealing with people you do not like and whose habits you do not condone and that's just the way things are. I hate to sound trite but people need to learn to just fucking deal with it.

If it were something that didn't affect me, I wouldn't really give a crap that people smoke.  Hell, the smoke itself doesn't even bother me since I just learned to live with it (and what does that say about smoking?), what bothers me is how badly it makes everyone who smokes smell like ass.

I know smokers love to say they don't smell for whatever reason, but you do and it's disgusting.  The moment you start affecting me because you smell like feet, ass, and gingivitis I can start complaining because you are affecting me.  I seriously want to throw up anytime someone who just smoked a cigerette gets within 10 feet of me.  I just can't understand how those people can't understand how disgusting they smell.

Yeah it's as disgusting as the smell of someone who's drunk and on top of that you gotta deal with him making himself look like an ass and would probably piss himself in the next 10 minutes.

Yes, obnoxious drunks are obnoxious, but what about the people that occassionaly have a beer or a glass of wine?  They don't affect me in the least (assuming they aren't morons and drink and drive).  Or are you assuming anyone that ever drinks fits into that catagory?

What about the person that has the occassional one cigarette?  They still smell like ass after they smoke.

The thing is that pisses me off about your comments is how much dumb they are. Why do people smoke ? why do people drink ? why do people are become assholes in general ? It's a bad habit and I am not defending it or saying it's not bad for you far from it, but just to come here and start judging and telling people what the outta do or not do in their privacy is obnoxious.

If someone is bothering you with their smell tell them to stay the fuck away from you or just move on it's the same as sitting next to a guy who haven't showered in 2 weeks and smells like ass.

Just did a search since I didn't know. According to this, a Marlboro pack (I don't know how many it brings, I think it's 20) costs 1.44 dollars. The cheapest brand I found, 1 pack (again, probably 20 cigs) = 0.52 dollars

Wow! If I did still smoke that would be great!  Glad I stopped though.

Minor correction, the pack I'm pretty sure it's of 20, not of 10, I fixed that
