Forums - Sony Discussion - How Big will be Gran Turismo 5's Online?

The gaming industry has changed alot in the last 4-5 years.People earlier always looked at graphics, gameplay and storyline of a game. But nowaday mostly all gamers except a few Hardcores are behind the online multiplayer thing.

And Gran Turismo, one of the most awaited games is due on PS3 this year and is going to include online with leaderboards. This is surely going to be amazing.

Games like Halo,Gears of War,Call of Duty are all known for their online multiplayer.Actually most of the people buy these games cause of the multiplayer online. Many don't even care to play the the Single Player Campaign. These games have come to define today's online gaming.

We can't compare GT5 online with FPS online but we can surely can compare what impact it has and how popular it is among gamers.

So will GT5 define Online gaming on Playstation platform and be as big as its sales and popular as some of the other giants of Online Gaming?

I wont be huge, but it be defining in anyway. I never thought of Gran Turismo being a game that would benefit from having a great online feature. To me it was always about collecting the cars and racing. But I am sure some people will enjoy it.

it will be great and awesome from what i have seen. 5 years in development is good enough to make a game really great

5 years of development???   Dont tell me you think this game was started directly after GT4.  Especially since Polyphony Digital had 2 other projects they were working on and released since then

I think GT5 will have an impact not only on gamers but also on other types of Media. The multiplayer of GT5 will be very popular and there will be a lot of tournements.

At some point, something must have come from nothing...

Should be awesome and an online gem for the system.

That depends how well it is implemented. This is why people have been crying for a car damage feature. Helps keep online competitive.

Otherwise its just a game of bumper cars, without the crazy speed and power ups...

If you had played GT5p online you would have known that it was far away from that.

Oh yeah you could bump into other cars, but unless you wanted a 5 second penalty at 20 MPH stuck in you, completely destroying your chances to come on top in competitive online, you would do anything to even touch the opponents car.

So it was already far from what people described.

OT - Online for this game can become huge, especially if they implement tournament systems like a souped up version of the Time Trials they have held so far.
