Activision-Bllizard is the biggest third party in the gaming industry, why on earth would it be meaningless to include them ????????????????????????

Pretty much every third party gaming company runs a MMO so you include every other MMO but not Wow ?

My point was that they're the most profitable and consistent part of Activision-Blizzard, to put Activision's profits into perspective when we're talking about the profitability of the console market.

Funny I thought the title of this thread was about the video game industry and so was the OP post...

Yeah... as I said for me video games = games played on a TV = console games.

Have you heard of the "Computer and Video Games" magazine? There are a lot of people who use the term like that. And let's face it, the vast majority of the debate in this site are about the console market, especially when game budgets and profits are the topic.

Again, I was just putting things in perspective. Anyone is free to ignore what I said, if it doesn't fit their definitions.

Not all 11500 of the ppls mentionned that lost their jobs worked on console stuff..

And every time someone mentions EA, Activision, Ubisoft and other revenue and profit, it does include a lot more than console gaming....( ubisoft DS revenue dropped by 200million$ in 2009 compared to 2008, that is not console...)

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Fair point. But I think it's safe to say that most handheld games make a profit anyway... those budgets must be really low.

Actually Ubisoft used to make a killing on DS games but it seems likely they lost money on the DS in 2009 ( 300 million$ DS revenue in 2008, 100 million$ revenue in 2009 for similar investment it seems).

When Ubisoft execs said they were scaling away from casual games, the reasons actually had a lot more to with the DS than with the Wii.......

It seems they made 24 DS games in 2009, if they had $100m in revenue that gives more than $4m per game on average... that should be enough to make a profit or at least not lose too much money.

With or without Wii Sports included?

Dunno, but even if it was with, without woud be average PS3s having 6 games, and Wiis having 5. (and it also assumes that Wii Sports would have 0 selling power on its own)

Still not exactly a great example of PS3 owners buying loads and loads of games and Wii owners not buying anything after Wii Sports, though

and let's also pretend that Wii sports is the only game that ever gets bundled to a console...

There is negligible gap in the tie ratio between the Wii and PS3 regardless of Wii Sports.  Saying that Wii owners don't purchase software is a very cliche' and incorrect statement.
