The new episode of South Park (Guitar Queer-O) is all about poking fun at Guitar Hero. You have to watch it just to see a crowd of people clapping at an accapella GH peformance :)
Great jab at gaming with the best Shooter game as well.
Leaving out some of the funniest moments so you can laugh as hard as I did, the episode goes something like this...
Stan and Kyle both pitch in for Guitar Hero and play for their friends and the simulated cheers of a crazy rock crowd. They score 100,000 points and are proclaimed true guitar hero rock stars. An eager manager, hunting for new talent shows up at the door, wanting to sign the boys.
Things quickly begin to turn sour. Kyle is replaced with a better guitar heroist on a mission to hit 1 million points. Stan, having lost a friend, turns to another video game, a shooter called Heroine Hero (where you shoot up simulated heroine, chasing after a purple dragon that you never catch). Loosing sleep and practice to virtual heroine, Stan looses his manager, his new band mate, and finds himself alone, wanting only to play with Kyle again.
In the end, Stan realizes it wasn't about the points, but it was all about the time he spent with his best friend having fun. Stan and Kyle mend broken ties and decide to go for the 1 million goal together.
This episode really captures the phenomenon that is Guitar Hero. It a huge hit at parties and kickbacks. Usually, two people take over and battle for 2 hours or so. It's fun and damn entertaining to watch. But kids would rather "play" the plastic controller than a real guitar.
