^ No, these are good examples of games exploring heavy themes.

He obviously didn't read the full post.  I was listing some games that were legitimately mature without resorting too much on gore, sex and language.

I read the full post, but was confused by your comment next to Final Fantasy, among other things.

That comment next to FF is because I had a feeling people would go all "FF is not mature" and what not

Since when did blood and cussing make a game mature?(other than the esrb rating) personally when i look at a game and see exessive blood and foul language i think the games target audience is 12-17 year olds, two of the most mature games iv ever played are Gran Turismo 4 and Final Fantasy XII, the audio aesthetic of GT4 reeks of elevator music  which gives the game a decidedly mature feeling, and the dialoge and lack of stupid anime (i wonder if ppl know anime is japanese for cartoon style, most cartoons are for children} crap like the other FFs, i in no way indorse reckless blood and gore as being mature, there are far better ways games can come off as mature,.. but id have to say killzone tries too hard, still great game though

I remember playing Gears of War, it was real fun but sometimes I would go "...ok". Then was Gears of War 2, I really felt like they tried TOO HARD to make the game look badass, I only kept playing for the achievements.

And I agree on God of War 2, too, but the first one was truly awesome.

That's right, just one "d"

In b4 "it's addict"

How can Gears of War 1 be childish if there is hardly any dialogue in the game

Let me reverse that, do you think it's characters and tone is mature?  To me it comes over like a demented 13 year olds fever dream of futuristic military action after seeing Aliens on TV late one night.

I mean, I think it's a fantastic game, very, very well designed and exectured.  But in tone and style it's really pretty immature - although that's one of it's attractions.

I guess I'm saying it's Rambo 2 and not The Hurt Locker, if you get what I mean.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I'd say most games rated M try too hard to be "adult" when all they are is mindlessly violent and juvenile.

So, most games, I guess. There are very few M games that actually seem mature to me.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

Well the only character from GeoW where I felt they tried too hard was Marcus Fenix.

God of War games. The sexuality and gore are way way too forced in order to try and appear mature and "bad ass". I never take those games seriously lol.

i thought the first GoW game wasn't, they were just trying to show how angry and tormented he was, but definitely just gratuitous filler in the sequals

God of wa and Gears of war.
