Email this thread to the Pope, tell him to help out, I'm pretty sure the pile of money he is sitting on could rebuild any country hit by disaster, and he would still be filthy rich.

Can't see the pope wearing a Bungie "Save Haiti" shirt or playing Halo 3.

Chances are the money won't even go directly to Haiti :.

Yeah, it will go from Bungie > Red Cross America.

They can do what Bungie can't.

avarice just hijacked this thread. We were not talking about her stupid socialist paranoia.

You know what I think Bungie should do?  Take their own money and send that to the aid of the people of Haiti.  I really tire of all the "rich" corporations asking the common man to go without while they sit on piles of cash.  Most people do not know this but 85 percent of all the worlds wealth is controlled by 5% of the worlds population.  If even 1% of them would give 1% of their wealth it would be enough to help rebuild that country and keep it running in the black for 10 years.  It has always been this way, the  "have's" asking the "have not's" for handouts; I guess this is how the rich stay rich.

Try reading the original post this time. Mainly the

PLAY HALO & WE'LL DONATE $77,000! part.
Where do you think that $77,000 comes from? Bungie's pocket. And while I'm at it the profits they make from you purchasing their merchandise is their money and guess what? They're giving 100% of it.
Oh and by the way it will take more than a couple of million to rebuild the country and it's infrastructure. Possibly billions.

I guess you failed to see the point of my conversation and that was that 5% of the population I.E. the super rich could could give 1% of their income and this problem would go away in one night.  Bungie is just one of many companies that profit from video games, movies, music, etc that could give 1% of their bottomline and could rebuild Haiti in  no time flat.  I know that you are very accustom to disagreeing with people that have different points of view so I know that most this is going over your head.  1 billion dollars is small potatoes to the top 5% of our population, that is not even 1 percent of their combined wealth.  77,000 is a great number but really how much over the years have big companies like bungie made on gamers like us?  Exactly.....my original post still stands.

I guess you failed to see the point in this thread, it's to raise awareness in Bungie's "Be A Hero" campaign. Not a thread to verbally piss on all other businesses (Why are you mentioning other companies anyway?) and whine about how rich and greedy they're. In no way are you contributing. I figure you don't even own Halo 3 or ODST OR a Xbox 360. Heh your probably to cheap to donate anything and rely on the "rich" too do it for you.

Your going off topic and acting as if Bungie aren't doing a thing/doing it to profit themselves. You talk about the common man going without. If you haven't noticed you are actually buying and receiving a Bungie Shirt and that $20 is going to Haiti. You are getting something out of it, what would you get from going directly to the red cross? Your not being forced to donate so if your to strapped for cash, don't. Simple as.

By the way how wealthy do you think Bungie are? You will find Microsoft claimed the majority of the profits from the Halo series and Bungie have atleast 3 internal projects with money riding in them. No company will chuck all of their worth into a charity and dump themselves, their familes and their shareholders into the gutter. If you were the CEO your head would be on a plate. Literally...

One rich person/company providing will accomplish very little only in large numbers will the support do any good. And why do you think too fix a damaged country all you do is chuck some money at it and bang everythings fine? It takes time. Food, medicine, materials needs to be shipped in (Thats proving to be tough enough) and the infrastructure needs to be rebuilt. You know? Hospitals, Schools, Homes etc. And guess what with all of that comes more costs. Wages, transport costs (Fuel) etc. This is the real world not the Sims.

Little fact: Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have donated around $60 Billion between them to help aid 3rd world countries, they're the two richest men in the world and what significant impact has that had?

I won't reply to your next post if you come out with the same "rich control 85% of the world they should be the ones providing everything" bullshit. We are all just as liable and I'm sure 85% of us "common men" can afford a $20 tee or a quick game of Halo 3 on a wednesday night.

I can't believe people bash Bungie for doing this. There is a certain line where console wars get out of control. Some people here crossed it.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I will take of days of work then; I have a good excuse now.

Nice gesture, token though it is.

You do realise it is illegal for Bungie to give away money that can't be justified through showing that it would, or is likely to, return a benefit to shareholders in the future? What's that benefit? Make gamers feel good about Bungie and so be more likely to buy the next Bungie game that comes out. If Bungie can't show a financial benefit from giving the money away then any shareholder can take Bungie to court and sue them for lost return. Fortunately for Bungie, the amount being given away is too small for any shareholder to get upset about and to take that sort of action. Which is why Bungie can't give away a meaningful amount like $2-3 million, because at that amount some shareholder is likely to get a bit upset about it and take the matter further.

A corporation can dine out on one act of high profile charity for a very long time, and get a whole bunch of free advertising into the bargain.

It'll make a lot of people feel good, but giving no money at all would be just as effective in solving the underlying problems that lead to the scale of this disaster in the first place. In other words this is meaningless in the larger scheme of the social and economic problems of the third world.

Lobby the rich countries to forgive the crippling 3rd world debt, which is as effective at keeping countries impoverished than anything else, then you might do something to really feel good about.

I hate to break it to you 2, but if you (or your family) can afford to own all 3 current gen gaming consoles, then you ARE one of the top 15% richest people in the world, in fact you are probably one of the top 10%, perhaps even top 5% in the world. My net worth is probably close to "only" $70,000 US (none of it in cash). That probably puts me in the worldwide top 5% rich folks. I don't feel particularly rich, but believe me, compared to 95% of the world I sure am.

If you think you one of the "common men" in this world you really need to wake up and take a good look at the world around you.

So money will not help the Red Cross and other organizations assist the people of Haiti?

I think you are in the same fairy tale land as Avarice.

You do know that not every thread is an open invitation to prove how smart you are at the expense of other's enthusiasm. Yes, I understand that I am wealthy compared to the rest of the world, that was never my point. The point is that a company is doing some good things that they absolutely didn't HAVE to do. This IS a nice gesture, and if you are to be believed, they are doing everything they can. What would make you happy? Explain that. I don't understand why people just have to bitch about everything. And sounding "smart" while you're bitching is still just bitching in the end. Your comment to me just boils down to "lulz, bungie not do enough". Might as well just have typed that.
