Sales are important, but then it comes to profit the 360 is destroying the PS3 which brings us to who is in better position to win in sales by the end. I think its fascinating to watch how things are developing but its pretty clear to me that 2nd place will belong to MS. It also important to consider that MS isnt even trying. They only reacted after the PS3 announced price cuts which says a lot considering how loaded they are at the corporate level.

At this present time, MS could cut the 360 price in half and still break even on their hardware. Sony on the hand is desperate and will have very little wiggle room to react if MS decided to cut prices. The good news for Sony is that they still have complete dominance in Japan but it seems to me that they have lost the US and there is no chance of catching up this gen.

When 360 numbers were > ps3, the sales numbers were always the most important.Now that most numbers are often in favor of the ps3, console numbers are not so important but profitability suddenly is the most important thing in a thread about CONSOLE SALES.

I find it hard to believe that you own a xbox360 , whats your gamer tag. When ps3 is behind in sales there is no telling what delusion some people will come up with to protect the ps3 as well, Atleast he makes valid points.

There is always a few different area's of interest to look at in any occasion and profit is one part that is just as important as sales< YOU NEED TO MAKE MONEY AT SOME POINT.  What he is saying is even though M$ is losing in WW sales they are not in the pocket. It is exactly  opposite with the ps3, make no money but have more sales.

Guess what that means xbox is in a possition to cut cost and put pressure on sony with out losing any money and they will cut cost soon, when the wand comes out.

SO if sony keeps cutting cost WHen xbox does then they better hope at some point there software does as good as M$'s because they need some way to make back all there loses. They'll will be in the same position that M$ was in after the first xbox if it continues or they just leave the price and let the sales lag but make money. that seems like the better move  considering that the xbox can cut price any time and make money. Be competive but don't drive your self to the poor house unless you got money like M$ does.

So the same year the PS3 releases a slim model and drops it's price to $299, the 360 shows growth and statistically equals the PS3 sales during the biggest holiday buying month in America.

Why do I need a link? The XB uses relatively common computer technology that was made well over 5-6 years ago by IBM (cpu) and ATI (gpu). It has a DVD drive, an old hard drive, a small amount of memory and a board. The dvd drive can probably be had for less than $10. The chips and boards probably around $30-$40 given how old they are. The drive depends on the size but lets say the 120gb which can be had easily for around $30 if it were purchased in quantities. Then you have chasis, some wireless components, a ps and a controller. All these are fairly cheap. Put it all together and you can probably make the xbox arcade for about $80 shipped including labor and the hard drive version for around $40 more due to an extra controller, and some cables.

I honestly dont care for either the PS3 or the 360 in terms of units sold. The only reason I own a 360 is because it was the 1st to offer itself at $100 (thank you Amazon.com) which was my sweet spot. Unfortunatly for the PS3, I no longer have any use for it but if it were to hit $100 first, I would have bought it instead. I disclose that I have a huge bias towards PC gaming but I have been extremely happy with my 360.

As you can probably tell from many of my posts I am a securities investor. I look for the best run and most profitable company at the best price I can get it. I do care about hardware sales but I care more about the bottom line because I actually have money vested not just emotion. That said, I current dont own any Ninny, MS or SNE stock. I do however keep a close eye on all 3 but SNE is the only one I would short comfortably.

I think PS3 grew so nuch because in 2009 the games to play were all on PS3, the only game to play on 360 that year was forza 3 (better than GT). PS3 had so many good games in 2009 not even gonna list them all.

BUT I will rant on how that damn expansion pack odst, yes a milked stupid expansion pack but they wanted to call it a fucking game, sold more than uncharted 2 and that game deserved way more sells than that crap.

Oh boy, the growth is clearly due to the price drop.

Anyhow, I think its great the 360 had steady sales with tough competition.
