It's pretty nice. Not just hyperbolic-level awesome, but nice.

I think that, if I had been the one to design this, I would have juxtaposed a feeling of serenity on the boxart with what the game is actually like. Maybe Kratos sitting on a hill overlooking a city; only, if you look, there are visual clues that he's sitting on Gaia's shoulder, and there should be hints that either great violence has been done or is about to be done: just having the Blades of Chaos drawn (even bloodied) or deified soldiers amassing in the city might be enough

It probably wouldn't be this bad-ass, I grant

Cliched or not, doesn't mean it's not a nice box art (IMO). It could also be said to hundreds box art out there. I'm over 20, even play game before the 16bit era, and still find this box art looks nice to say the least... or "tough, badass!!!" :)

No it isn't. That box art looks pretty but it doesn't hide the fact it doesn't offer anything new that we haven't seen before.

1. Hero of the game looking pissed - check

2. fire/explosions behind him - check

3. Million seller - check

I'm not saying its bad by any means, but its boring, cliched and not worth making a thread for. I know there are many games with lame box arts...but you guys are putting this one on the pedestal for some reason.

The point of this boxart isnt for the fans of the series tho. Those of us who will buy the game no matter what are not being targeted. This is for Mr. I need a new game and wow, this boxart looks pretty good I think Ill get it.

While I do like this boxart, I cannot bring myself to have it hype me for the game. Hmm, maybe some of you are using this as an excuse to be hyped for GoW3? Should be hyped because it is going to be awesome, period.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

I don't dislike it. Its a really well made generic box art...

Could have been so much cooler. Like an in action shot where blades are flying out the cover or something...

Instead its copy/paste game character model over a disturbing background and add fire. AMAZING!

I don't think it's being "used as an excuse for anything". The boxart is catchy and people like it. Can't that be good enough?

Seems like we're dealing with paranoid people or something.

Is it catchy?  Sure.  Can people like it? Sure.  Is that good enough? Sure.  The game is going to be awesome, with or without good box art.  I cannot fathom why its now "better" due to good box art tho. And I edited the line in question so its not so general.

How so?  As a gamer who posts on a gaming forum, I would hope we would be informed enough about a new release that something silly like box art wont push you one way or another.

The first paragraph is pointed towards Mr. John Smith who is standing in a gaming store with no idea what to buy.  Those are the people who the box art is pointed towards.  For those of us who love games enough to post on a gaming forum (and spend our time doing so) the box art should be the icing on the cake, not the entire cake.
