Forums - Gaming Discussion - Possible problem with Natal

This question came to me as I was thinking about the capcom natal game thread.

When announced at e3 last year, Nintendo spoke of a camera based input such as Natal in a *possibly* cryptic way.

They said "people want to hold something"...

One person in the other thread mentioned they wondered if they could hold a knife to control a game. Honestly, it's likely that people will start using home objects during games.

Now, during the wii's tenure as highest selling platform, there have been numerous reports and anecdotal evidence/videos of people accidentally punching nearby people, throwing their wiimotes at the tv screen, and the like.

Imagine the amount of movement involved in the wii, and double it. What I mean is that there is currently no understanding of how people will control movement in a Natal game. Do you walk in place? Lean? There is obviously more movement involved.

What do you think? Is there a chance that people can be injured while playing Natal? Additionally, what do you think Nintendo knows about it? Afterall, they did work on a camera before finalizing the wiimote concept. Do people have a tendency to pickup potentially dangerous items or hurt themselves/others if there is this much movement/less restricted movement involved?

This is not a troll thread, it is an honest question that makes me a little nervous.

O.o That's a very scary thought....

Well Nintendo's concern is also a concern of mine is how immersed can you feel in a game if you have no physical connection to it whatsoever. The controller is the physical medium that ties you to a character in the game. Simply mimicking his moves doesn't necessarily give you the same immersiveness unless your eyes are where his eyes are and then you get the perception of you are in his place.

As for your concern, it's definitely a possibility, but like the Wii, it is more of an issue of personal responsibility than company concern. People should have fun when playing these games but keep safety in mind as well.

imagine all those houses out there with guns in them. Would a kid use dad's gun to play RE or MW on Natal?

lol...this is funny to me.
Ima invite my neighbour over and then punch the shit out him and then blame it on natal.

You know the Wii overreaction, where people move the Remote in a huge arc to swing a tennis bat when a small flicking action will do?

Natal will be much worse.

I disagree completely. If I can feel more immerse in Twilight Princess with just a little swing that controls Link's sword movement, imagine when I'll be able to control the shield without pressing a button (which has nothing to do with holding a shield movement anyways).

Obviously, Zelda is never coming for the 360, but Oblivion V is probably coming soon!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

my uncle in law punched my sister in law right in the tit while playing wii sports. Shit was hilarious.

My sister in law is the type to just pull it out and show everyone her breast, and that shit was deep deep red.

Maybe this is why Sony is letting Microsoft run with Natal? >_>

Americans, THE FPS-lovers and Gun-lovers, will go mental and shoot up each other during the game, leaving lots of people dead in front of their Xbox 360. It's the fatal Natal Ring of Death and because of the media-backlash, Sony will start selling more family-friendly consoles because of the "Wand".

It's a Sony plan after all, I knew it >_>
