Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: MAG will make you buy a PS3

Sony has claimed that new FPS MAG will be a 'tipping point' for consumers to buy a PS3.

The 256-player online FPS is released later this month on January 29h in the UK, and has been turning a fair few heads - not least for its crazily huge multiplayer.

Sony confirmed the UK release date this morning, as reported by CVG. Mainland Europe will get the game two days earlier on January 27th, and it will hit Australia and New Zealand on January 28th.

"MAG is a very important IP for us and definitely a key exclusive for PS3," SCEE UK product manager Phil Lynch told MCV magazine this week. "MAG is a real statement of intent for us to engage fans of FPS games.

"With the successful Resistance along with Killzone 2 and now MAG, we feel we are a viable choice for gamers looking to get that much more from their console. MAG will definitely be one of the many tipping points for those who haven't got a PS3 to get one this January.

Lynch added: "Our sales expectations for MAG are high. Thanks to the massive success of titles like Modern Warfare, Killzone 2 and Resistance, FPS as a genre has become much more accessible to everyone.

"Allied to this, I think MAG's unique selling points of unparalleled scale and groundbreaking player command structure will really make it stand out against the competition."

I don't agree that MAG is a system seller. PS3 is shaping up nicely because of the overall library not just one game.

Ehh... I was hyped for the game, but the beta was less than satisfactory IMO...

all beta are unsatisfactory cause they have faults in them. They are not full games.

I bet Zipper will give us a great game

I think Sony is doing that to attract american players, that love shooters so much.

The PS3 library and features are the reasons to buy a PS3.

An (online only) game will not be a system seller IMO, but should have average to decent software sales.

It'll be great for those people whom like FPS online. People need to stop judging it by the beta because rarely is there a flawless beta...that's why it's a beta.

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

well, I just didn't feel it in the beta - I'm more excited for battlefield:bc2

Rarely is a beta used to actually test the game anymore. BF:BC2 comes to mind along with MNR. They gave away the codes to anyone who wanted them. So people just play it to see what the game is about and never report any bugs they encounter. Home had a proper beta where it was extremely hard to get into(for EU anyway) and you had to sign an NDA. So there was less leaks from them but there was still plenty. We had a special forum that no one else could see so we could talk about it. Most betas now are just becoming a demo to people who look at gaming sites and not to actually test the game.

From the beta the game wasn't bad, but will it make somebody pick up a PS3?

ehhhhhhh kind of doubting that.
