How much do you think PSN costs Sony?

MS charges for Live, PSN is free to consumers but obviously not for Sony. Is it a big cost to them do you think?

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Sony made a high win out of PSN there is a thread about it somewhere it was pretty high havent expected that maybe I will find you the numbers.

Nobody knows for sure, But i think PSN is making sony a a nice profit.
Cause of all the microtransactions possible on PSN. I remember some news post about how Home was giving Sony a very nice income off PSN

"at least being equal"?

PSN rakes in money. Not the size that Xbox Live brings in, but it's a profit station for Sony, that much is obvious.

There was a thread I am looking for since 15 Minutes and it listed the money Sony earned with PSN it was somewhere in the sevenhundred million range if I remember correctly. Doesnt someone posted in the thread because I havent.

Revenue/Profit/ROI?

I cant remember I do know that I was surprised how high it was (what ever it was) i think it was between october and december when I read it I wonder why noone can remember.

PSN expenditures come primarily from the storage and bandwidth needed for the following:

  • Storing and transferring all information pertaining to member profiles (friends lists, messages, Trophies, etc.).
  • Storing and transferring all content available via the PlayStation Store.
  • Storing and transferring all data required to make use of Home.

And of course any development costs inherent in offering such services.

They make money to cover Home via microtransactions and the content on the PlayStation Store should easily pay for itself overall.  Everything regarding player profiles is a sunk cost, which is what Microsoft covers with their Xbox Live fee.  However, I assume Sony makes enough via the store and other avenues to pay for this and then some.  They are also now adding microtransactions specific to player profiles that should help cover this, the first of which being premium avatars.

700m???  yen presumably, even thats doubtful.

I seem to remember when they made a big thing of it making $1m in REVENUE in one month once.... but that isnt profit.

That figure was specific to Home, in reference to its first month of public beta.
