So IGN basically wants all JRPGs to be Oblivion.....if that happens I will stop playing JRPGs

Why? Oblivion is a great game.

If by "great" you mean empty, pointless, aimless and boring, you are very right.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

I didn't say I liked them better... I said I'd rather listen to something I don't understand (and therefore cannot tell if it is bad or not) over listening to something that makes me want to jam icepicks in my ears.

If the English acting is even mediocre, I'll listen to that if given the option. It ends up being around a 50/50 split for me.

The main reason behind this is that you get to hear their emotion and changes in tone to tell you what they are feeling, or thinking. Something that to this day has not been done well in any movie, cartoon, or game that has been dubbed.
If you want to know what I mean, watch Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon in the dubbed format, then switch to subtitiles.
Even though the voice acting is top notch, it is still nearly a night and day difference, imo.

Thats cool that you like it, but I can't stand the last 2 elder scrolls games.

before I get started let me state that I hate MMOs for the same reasosns.

for me there was too much emphasis on mandane stuff that doesn't matter, a bad user interface compared with Daggerfall and even morrowwind, less content than the older games in the series, and in all honesty there is little to no role playing.  Its like you are playing an MMO because the quests are far too linear and for me were not fun.

I prefer tactical RPGs and other JRPGs because I like strategy games, if these games go the way to something like the above I will not like it.

The voice acting issue is a result of the fact that the creator's vision is always most realized in the original version.

I truly love my Western D&D based RPG's where you can do whatever the hell you damn well please. I don't like them in 1st person perspective though. As for the online characteristics, Never Winter Nights and games like Diabo have them. You can play with friends doing a regular campaign, or you can do a user created campaign.
I also truly love JRPG's, for being JRPG's. Linear story, but open world full of secrets. Grinding to gain levels so you can beat the next big boss. Talking to every single town's person to find out what happening, or to get a their 1 or 2 dimensional take on what his happening.

The last thing I forgot to include in my list of saving the JRPG's, get rid of the stupid planned encounters, and single placement of all enemies. I want my random encounters back. They make the game more difficult as well as give you a great source to level up. I would just do 1 thing, make the enemies run away from you if you are too strong for them. They used to do it in most of the older JRPG's why don't they do that as much anymore.

Wait, someone actually LIKES random encounters?

God, few things outside of random encounters (maybe excessive QTEs) will get me to turn a game off so quickly. I don't mind them on the DS (for some reason, I don't mind gaming lazy on a portable) but on a console, I find them unacceptable. I want the ability to fight when I want and to avoid fights when I want. Nothing makes me want to throw a controller more than getting two inches from a door and then hearing the "whoosh" sound of a random encounter starting. It's even worse when you kill the entire enemy platoon in one attack but still have to watch those stupid fucking intros and finishing moves every time.

Too many random encounters is bad, but none at all is boring, imo.
The problem of not having them is you you are then limiting the characters potential. You can only go up so many levels, customize your character so much and become a big beefy super dude to only a certain extent without them. Granted you could make them re-spawn, but if they are always spawning in the same place it gets annoying.
For example, in FFXII, there is no random encounter, but the enemies are always spawning in the same place. I guess you could do way with random encounters, so long as you have enemy spawning be fully random, within limits of course, No one wants to fight a lvl 49 enemy when they are lvl 3

Re-spawning enemies is no different than random encounters and at least they give me the chance to avoid enemies when I'm in a hurry to get some place.

I cannot stress how much I hate random encounters. It was one of the main reasons I disliked Lost Odyssey and preferred Blue Dragon.
