Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Working on New Disc Format, Possibly For PS4

Yep, BD's with more layers. That way there is less capital venture investment for Sony. Quad layer is already existent. Makes sense, much more sense. Also, full 1080p games will use more textures so I can see more than 50gb game data needed too.

6 TB? I call BS on it. Why would that much be needed for gaming? All they need is a faster blu-ray drive on the ps4. Blu-ray can already supposedly hold up to 200gb or so which is waaaay more than enough for gaming

not enough for uncompressed data. Wow, imagine developing games. Compression? Fuck that.

Who cares? The stuff that is compressed (audio and video, mostly) has virtually no quality loss from the compression (no matter how many PS3 fanatics tell us they can tell MGS4 uses uncompressed audio... on their crappy TV speakers).

takes time to compress data doesn't it?

Mmm yes but on the other hand, with uncompressed data developers have more data to carry around, needing more hard drive space, etc.

This is really nice to hear but what does it help?

M$ just throws out their money and says "DELETE HALF OF THE GAME because we use crappy DvD/CD or  25GB BluRay" like they did with FF13
So they delete 5975 GB from that game and it is only a Intro on the PS4

Then you have to download the rest for 500$

So is this going to be Skynet or The Matrix? Either way, we're screwed.
