Forums - Sony Discussion - Is Ps3 now what it should have been on release?

Personaly at 2007 I was waiting Ps3 to..well...blow my mind.My first game was Heavenly Sword and it was great game but after that...

For release, it should have been around 299-400€  and some, even 1, of these great exclusives in 2008-2009. I would have understood if Ps3 price was 399€ or something at release but 699€ for such crappy games (when compared to others),nothing mind blowing, user menu basically copied from Psp,crappy internet and others, was just stupid.Even when they dropped price this year to 299€, damage had been done.Too late?

Things could have been different. But then again I don't know how Sony could had done this. They could had released something almost similar as Xbox 360 (Without the all mighty pöwär öf Cêll) with Playstation logo and it might had been enough.Or if they would had waited 1 year for lower price and better game for release..OR they could had brought these Wands/Gem for Ps3 at its release date, so Wii and Ps3 would had been rivals.

Well this is just what I think.I don't know what Sony is planning (with that annoying 10 year old plan) but if I would be making console, I would remember what Sony did with Ps3 and evade doing  the same with at all cost.

Really why release console that doesn't give you profit?

Anyway, I enjoy my Ps3 so I'm happy they made such a console. But still, even after this great game year, nothing mind blowing yet that would had been worth 699€ (Well Mgs 4 ending).

Was Ps3 when you bought it what you wished for?Worth your money?

Is Ps3 now what it should have been on release?

isnt this true of all consoles ever...

except maybe the Wii.

I dunno, the 360 has been slowing down lately, and hasnt done a whole lot.  Did you read about that market research shop that recently said that the 360/wii would both lose sales in 2010 compared to 2009?  That sucks.

basically this is the real launch of the ps3

I bought my fat model last summer (329€) with Valkyria Chronicles. Worth of every cent.

no what i meant was that consoles are rarely what they should be at launch.... it usually very few quality games and expensive.

The PS3 had an extremely high price tag at launch: $500 and $600 here in the U.S. That alone is the single biggest factor in the PS3 having a slow launch. Yes the lack of big games hurt, but when consumers saw the $500 and $600 price tag and could get a 360 for $100 and $200 less, they went for it.

Had the PS3 launch at $400 and $500, the current sales figures would be different.

I bought my PS3 for 400$ last october (2008) + MGS4, worth every penny (especially since I bought it with my brother :P )

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Release price point? It shouldn't be higher than it is now. You can't do this and really expect it to do well.

As far as software selection, it is further along than consoles are at release. Usually a game system will end up having a dry period after the initial release period. The PS3 is beyond that.

I think it is a good thing that PS3 had such a tough start in life.

It's confirmation to all three companies what NOT to do, especially Sony.

Had Sony succeeded with PS3 at that ridiculous launch price God knows what price Sony and MS (maybe even Nintendo) would have stuck on their next console.
