Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Bach: '70% or 80%' of Worldwide publishers working on Natal games

President of Entertainment & Devices Division at Microsoft, Robbie Bach has said that around 70% or 80% of worldwide developers are working on Natal-based games.

Speaking to CBC News, Bach said "We have something like 70% or 80% of the publishers in the world already doing Natal-based games." Adding "Our first party studios are [also] very focused on this. We want to have a few titles from Microsoft that show the way and then we want the breadth and power of the ecosystem from our partners to bring lots of new ideas, new innovations, new concepts to the marketplace."

There's no doubt that Microsoft want Natal to become the future of gaming. But from response I've seen around the net for the past few months, it's not going to be easy for them to persuade everybody.

Natal is going to be huge. If this news is indeed true.

I doubt if even 70% of the worldwide developers bother with Consoles, much less Natal.  Maybe 70% of 360 developers...

To be fair, he said publishers.

In the quote, but in the article in the line above it says developers...

Even so, I doubt 70% of publishers make 360 games...

So...what about the people who aren't interested in Natal?

Who's making traditional games for my 360 then?

There will still be tons of non-Natal controlled games. Just looking at this years 360 release list tells you that, atleast for 2010, we're still safe from the Natal effect. Most companies will probably only be making one Natal game and see how sales go from there. Also, most games will most likely have standard controls with the ability to have Natal controls (Fable 3). Natal is a test how much MS can grab from Wii's casual userbase and how well they can sell games with motion controls. If everyone flocks to Natal then you can expect less controller type games in the future but I would say thru 2011 we're still pretty safe, and even then there will always be controller only games.

It's just that simple.

Yeah, I know that controller game will exist at least for long time coming.

My worry is that who will be making these game. I don't want an influx of ninjabread man quality games to flood the HD twins.

I would suggest it is 70% of publishers have paid the licensing fees for the dev kit. Similar PR spin I suppose and the more likely scenario.

The article's title is from some amateur website that doesn't seem to know the difference between publishers and developers.  As for his claim and you seeming to dispute it feel free to make a list of console game publishers that don't make Xbox 360 games and you'll see how small a list that is.
