Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan Sales Up!!!! Week ending Jan 2, 2010.

121K for PS3 would have been a drop from the previous week if the previous week hadn't been adjusted down quite a lot. If memory serves the original number for PS3 was 140-ishK, now it's 117K. That's a big adjustment.

Others > Japan for PSP. Is that good, or bad, or makes no difference for PSP?

PS3 looking good for 1/2 mill WW, Wii gonna be tight for 1 million.

ACII PS3 cracks 100K in the same week the 360 version cracks 50K.

Among Thieves takes a huge tumble down to 118. Selling less than MW2 on 360 and less than MW1 on PS3 and less than its older brother.

The Wii looks like it is going to stay in charge in Japan. Poor 360 is back to normal numbers a;ready.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

Good numbers all around. Except the 360 of course:(. I really want the America numbers up to see if NSMBW passed 10 million. Please ioi!!!

Natal can't come soon enough for the Xbox in Japan because that right there is just sad. I dont have that much knowledge on the japan scene, but beside the fact that xbox is a US product, why is it that the difference is sooo big when they sell basicly within the same ballpark in the rest of the world?

anyone know when NA is going to up and present?

It's not going to make 10 million, you can forget about that. Going by the last few weeks numbers and typical seasonal trends, it should be around 300K. 444K would be unbelievable.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Wii 3rd party games seem to be doing well (Sengoku Musou 3, Momotaru Denetsu 2010, Taiko Wii 2, Tales of Graces). MH3 on the verge of a million finally too. Even "bombs" like WE Playmaker 2010 and Karaoke Joysound DX look like they'll end up with okay-ish figures in the end.

Curious to see how Biohazard DSC and Tasunoko Vs Capcom UAS do in January...

Keeping it simple, the main hurdles facing 360 at launch were:

1 - weak Xbox brand associated with Western titles not popular in the region, Halo, etc

2 - known brands in Nintendo and Sony with the expectation of lots of popular titles for the region

Now, the 360 started to gain some traction when MS released JRPGs on the platform, countering point 1), seeing some not bad boosts (compared to baseline 360 sales) but then RROD gave it a knock back as poor reliability is less acceptable in Japan apparently.  Plus the Wii took off and although it didn't do gangbusters the PS3 started to find its feet.

In the end MS simply couldn't maintain the rate of JRPG exclusive releases, nor stop the timed exclusivity they'd agreed for some titles expiring, hence current sales trends and levels.

Natal might give it a boost but it's by no means a sure thing as Wii already owns a big chunk of motion control market in Japan, plus of course Sony will have it's own motion controls on a  more popular console and brand in the region.

In the end I think 360 isn't going to see much more interest in Japan over current levels, and I expect MS to just settle for what they've gained in the region and focus on US/Europe for a while now.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Wow how things have changed in a few weeks.  SW3, taiko 2, and TOG looked like bombs.  Now SW3 and taiko 2 look quite successful, and TOG is probably gonna reach 250k at this rate which is decent especially since it launched the week before FF13.  Momotarou is doing really well.  The only casualty seems to be FF:CC, which is kinda funny because FF is the strongest brand of all of these games.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
